Chapter 32 - Donating Grains ( 1 )

As soon as Wen Liyan finished his words, everyone turned their heads, avoiding his gaze. Seeing this, Wen Liyan snorted but said nothing.

Lu Qianxuan frowned and said, "Post an announcement. Whoever is willing to donate their grains can go to the General Mansion. In exchange for their grains, they can choose a reward from the General Mansion."

When the military officers heard this, they felt conflicted. They never expected that there would be a day when the heir of Zhenbei Qinwang had to use his possessions to exchange grains.

"Understood," the battalion officer in charge of supplies replied with a salute and left the temporary office.

"Everyone should go take a rest. We still have a long battle to fight," Lu Qianxuan dismissed everyone.

The military officers gave him a salute before they left one after another.

Thanks to the fast horse, the order given by Lu Qianxuan was received by the governor of Luo City the next morning.

After accepting the order, the governor summoned his subordinates and had them post the announcement in several places around the city, including the towns and villages under his jurisdiction.

Because of this announcement, added to the war that was going on in the northern town, the commoners finally realized that something was wrong.

If the army lacked supplies, they would not be able to have a full meal. Without a full meal, where did they get the strength to fight the enemies?

When more and more people reached this situation, those with money and connections were already prepared for the worst–case situation. They were either sending away the womenfolk in their family or transferring their wealth secretly.

As for the poor commoners, they could only pray that the merchants would be willing to donate their grains. No matter how much money they had, without the country, they would be like a rootless weed.

When Yao Zhi woke up, the news of the Commander of the White Tiger Army exchanging rare treasures for grains had spread to their village. Not knowing the situation outside, she washed up as usual and had her breakfast.

After breakfast, she started watering her vegetable gardens. Unlike the ancient people who would wear a set of clothes for days, she had to change her clothes daily. Due to this, she decided to buy five more sets of clothes, costing her one hundred fifty points.

Besides clothes, she also bought a pair of cloth shoes costing her fifty points. Although the shoes looked similar to the ones worn in this era, they were made using a high–quality material. This type of shoe was usually used by cosplayers or actors and actresses in ancient–themed dramas.

Satisfied with the quality of her shoes, Yao Zhi changed her broken straw shoes and wore the new ones. Without anything to do, she decided to wash her clothes.

While she was busying herself at home, Wang Shen learned about the situation. Thinking about her son and Fu Chen'an being sent to the northern town, she quickly went to find Yao Zhi.

"Yao girl, are you at home?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Yao Zhi quickly washed her hands and went to open the gate. "Aunt Wang, what brings you here so early?" she asked.

The moment the gate was opened, Wang Shen saw an unfamiliar girl. She was taken aback and blurted out, "Who are you? Why are you here?"

Seeing Wang Shen's wary expression, Yao Zhi remembered that she had changed a lot. Although she was not as slim as the women in this era, she has changed a lot.

Smiling, she said, "Aunt Wang, it's me, Yao Zhi."

"What?! You are Yao Zhi?!" Wang Shen exclaimed in surprise.

Fearing that she was being lied to, Wang Shen circled the girl and looked at her from head to toe. Although she was much slimmer compared to the Yao Zhi she knew, her voice was indeed similar.

What was more, she found that the color of her eyes was the same. "You are really Yao Zhi?" she asked again.

Nodding at her, Yao Zhi replied, "Aunt Wang, didn't I go to the border market before? When I went there, I helped an old man who had fainted due to heatstroke. Turns out, he is a divine physician."

"He told me that I was poisoned when I was young. To repay me, he gave me a pill that could detoxify all poisons. After I took that pill, I suddenly lost weight after I vomited and had diarrhea for two days."

At this moment, Yao Zhi was spouting bullshit and praying that she was able to fool Wang Shen.

Logically speaking, even if one took an immortal pill, it would not be able to expel poison or lose weight as fast as she did. Therefore, she was unsure if Wang Shen would believe her story.

Unexpectedly, Wang Shen's eyes lit up at her words, and she patted her hand gently. "I was worrying about how to tell you about your poisoning. It is great that you met a benefactor and no longer have to worry about your life."

This time, it was Yao Zhi's turn to be stunned. She looked at Wang Shen and asked, "Aunt Wang, what do you mean?"

"Actually, Physician Yu told me that you were poisoned and only had at most two years to live. I did not know how to tell you and wanted to wait for your husband to return before I told him."

"But now that you have recovered, you do not have to worry about this matter anymore. Isn't this great news?" she asked with a smile.

When she heard this, Yao Zhi could not help but feel a chill run down her spine. If she did not get the reward from the system, would she have to die after two years?

Fortunately, she was willing to spend her points and get the reward. Otherwise, she would not be able to protect her small life.

After she was sure that she had found the right person, Wang Shen finally asked, "Yao girl, have you heard about the situation at the border?"

Thinking about the war going on at the border, Yao Zhi thought about her nominal husband and asked with a hint of worry, "Aunt Wang, did something happen to my husband?"
