Chapter 13 - 13

Chapter 13: The Female Detective (Thanks to reader 20170327213948235 for the tip!)

At noon, Ling Xiao stopped his pickup truck and walked into his Pharmacy.

He had just returned from the home of the actress, Mikayla Baines.

During the morning's youth preservation massage, she kept flirting with him, just like every time before.

Hollywood actresses indeed have much better figures than ordinary women.

Although Gan Jing's appearance was not bad and her skin was even more delicate than Mikayla Baines', comparatively, in certain areas, she was indeed much smaller.

As soon as he stepped into the Pharmacy, Ling Xiao saw Gan Jing sitting there with a sour expression.

Across from her, a sweet-looking, tall woman sat at a tea table, wearing a white checkered shirt, with a black women's suit jacket casually draped beside her.

She held a teacup, looking surprisingly elegant.

"Katherine, my dear Katherine, why have you come?" Ling Xiao pretended to look around, then exaggeratedly said, "If I remember correctly, it should be working hours now."

Officer Kate Beckett, a detective in the Los Angeles Police Department's Homicide Division, and one of the Los Angeles Police Department's most beautiful officers.

Kate Beckett put down her teacup, gave Ling Xiao a cold look, and said, "Why can't I come? Is it not allowed for me to buy some gynecological medicine? Do you have an opinion?"

"No, no. How dare I have an opinion?" Ling Xiao quickly waved his hand, handed the medicine box to Gan Jing, and at the same time complained, "I say, Gan Jing, why are you giving Officer Beckett tea? She's a famous detective, how could she be used to our coarse tea? You should have served her coffee directly, remember that for next time!"

Hearing Ling Xiao say this, Gan Jing was slightly stunned at first, then couldn't help but laugh, saying, "Yes, yes, I'll go and get Officer Beckett some coffee right away."

There was indeed a coffee machine at home, but neither Ling Xiao nor Gan Jing drank much coffee, so usually, when guests came, they were served tea, and it was good tea directly imported from the great country across the Pacific Ocean.

As for those who wanted coffee, they could only have instant coffee.

"No need, tea is fine," Seeing the two of them playing off each other, Beckett felt a surge of anger, glared fiercely at Ling Xiao, and said, "Ling Xiao, come here, I have something to ask you."

"Ask me?" Ling Xiao pointed to his nose and said, "Does Officer Beckett have something? Come, let me take a look at you."

With that, Ling Xiao walked over and reached for Kate Beckett's left wrist.

Beckett didn't know what Ling Xiao wanted to do, frowned, and pulled back her hand, trying to avoid Ling Xiao's right hand.

But no matter how she dodged, Ling Xiao firmly covered her wrist, and finally, in her incredulous gaze, gently placed his hand on it.

After just a brief sensation, Ling Xiao shook his head and said, "My dear Katherine, your body hasn't been very well recently, perhaps you're too tired.

Your liver Qi is too strong, and your endocrine system is a bit out of balance.

This month's period, I'm afraid, is overdue."

"My business is none of yours," Beckett glared at Ling Xiao, quickly withdrew her hand, looked at Ling Xiao, and angrily asked directly, "What happened last night?"

"What happened last night?" Ling Xiao's face was full of surprise.

He said with a bewildered expression, "Isn't the public security in Los Angeles quite good recently, especially under the management of all you Los Angeles Police Department officers?

It's been calm and peaceful, and even the number of people who owe me money has decreased significantly.

And I really didn't know anything last night.

We went to bed very early, right, Gan Jing?"

"Hmm!" Gan Jing glared fiercely at Ling Xiao, but finally nodded and said, "We went to rest directly after the last guest left last night."

"See, I told you?" Ling Xiao shrugged at Beckett, a triumphant look on his face.

"Don't play dumb with me, you know what I'm talking about?" Kate Beckett glared at Ling Xiao, lowering her voice and saying, "Don't think I don't know about the large-scale deployment of the Chinese Gang last night.

I have more than just one informant under me."

Informant, this was indeed one of Ling Xiao's unofficial identities, but Ling Xiao's identity as an informant was not in the Los Angeles Police Department's files.

He belonged to Kate Beckett's separate private informant network.

The reason Ling Xiao agreed to be Beckett's informant was out of necessity.

Previously, a dose of Chinese medicine he sold had caused someone's death, and after the family quickly cremated the body, they sued Ling Xiao.

It was Kate Beckett who investigated and uncovered this murder case, which was an attempt to frame Ling Xiao.

Perhaps out of personal favor, perhaps out of sympathy, Ling Xiao agreed to be Kate Beckett's private informant.

The reason for saying sympathy was because he learned about the background of this poor girl, Kate Beckett.

Her mother was murdered when she was a child, and for many years, the real killer had never been found.

After graduating from university, she directly joined the police force, and in just three years, she became one of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department's Homicide Division.

As Beckett's private informant, Ling Xiao's main task was to help her find the killer of her mother back then, and of course, also to provide certain intelligence on gang-related incidents in Los Angeles.

Moreover, if Ling Xiao had any difficult matters to handle, Beckett would also help him, after all, Ling Xiao's work as a gang doctor was not something that could be brought to light.

If he were truly targeted and scrutinized, he would be completely helpless.

Speaking of being an informant, Ling Xiao could only shrug helplessly and whispered, "Alright then, but we can't talk here, let's go inside!"

Seeing Beckett nod and get up to grab her jacket, Ling Xiao turned to Gan Jing and said, "Alright, Gan Jing, I'm taking Officer Beckett for a massage.

I'll leave this place to you!"

"Hmm!" Gan Jing nodded gently.

She knew that Ling Xiao being an informant and he and Kate Beckett going upstairs was not for some illicit massage, but for a private discussion.

Ling Xiao smiled gently at Gan Jing.

This girl was truly making him like her more and more, to the point of heartache.

On the second floor, Ling Xiao led Beckett to the study.

After closing the door, Ling Xiao finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Ever since the S.H.I.E.L.D. people appeared last night, he had to be extra careful.

One should know that S.H.I.E.L.D. was not a good place now; it was deeply infiltrated by Hydra.

If he were truly targeted by those people, Ling Xiao would have more than just trouble.

"Tea, or coffee?" Ling Xiao looked at Beckett and asked with a grin.

"Coffee!" Beckett glared at Ling Xiao and said grumpily.

She now wanted to see what Ling Xiao was really up to.

"Alright!" Ling Xiao smiled faintly, took a can of iced coffee from the small refrigerator nearby, and handed it to Beckett.

"You're giving me this?" Beckett looked at Ling Xiao with some dissatisfaction, but she still took it, after all, the weather in Los Angeles in early summer was already quite hot.

She opened the iced coffee, took a big gulp, and then looked at Ling Xiao and said, "Alright, tell me specifically, what exactly happened last night, and what do you know?"

"I don't know much, you know, I only have some involvement with the Si Hai Gang!" Ling Xiao shrugged, and seeing Beckett glare at him again, he finally smiled, no longer being perfunctory, and said in a deep voice, "Actually, it's nothing, just the Chinese Gang dealing with the Japanese Mafia."
