Chapter 68. Aila's Background
"'Kill all these crawling insects on the ground?'"
Ningguang's lashes lowered ever so slightly as her expression shifted. A faint ripple of emotion stirred beneath her composed exterior before she let out a soft, amused breath. "That does sound like something an Abyss Mage would say. Wherever they emerge in Teyvat, calamity is never far behind."
Her gaze sharpened. "However…'kill all these crawling insects on the ground'? That likely refers to the Geovishap Hatchlings and the Geovishaps. Aside from that, was there anything else?"
She asked as a matter of habit, expecting no surprises. From Futsu Mitama's earlier account—After witnessing the conflict between the Geovishaps and the Abyss Mages, the group had rushed toward the Primo Geovishap's chamber. Given that, whatever the Abyss Mage said afterward should have been lost to distance.
"Yes."
Kuki Shinobu's quiet response made every person present blink in surprise.
There was more?
Even Futsu Mitama paused—now that she mentioned it, the Abyss Mage's voice had rung out twice. Had she really caught that clearly?
"Let me think—" Kuki Shinobu sifted through her memory. "I'm not certain whether the translation is perfectly accurate, but what the Abyss Mage said afterward was—"
"'Kill all these crawling insects on the ground, for Lord Wangsi?'"
She scratched her cheek, visibly uncertain. Research materials on the Abyss were scarce in both Inazuma and Liyue; she had only ever studied fragments. Rumor held that Snezhnaya—locked in long-standing conflict with the Abyss—possessed far more extensive texts.
Originally, after finishing her studies in Liyue, Shinobu had planned to continue her research abroad in Snezhnaya. No one could have predicted the Sakoku Decree, which stranded her in Inazuma and—through Kujou Sara's introduction—eventually led her to the Arataki Gang. If fate had gone as expected, she would now be busy repairing the gang's endless mischief and shaping the group into something respectable.
Yet following Futsu Mitama had changed everything. Compared to the gang's antics, traveling at his side gave her purpose—tasks that required her skills, knowledge she could finally put to use. Including, now, her rudimentary grasp of the Abyss tongue.
"'Wangsi?'" Ningguang tapped a finger against her chin. The name felt unfamiliar—almost off. Perhaps it was simply a matter of imperfect translation. Sound carried strangely through the tunnels of the abandoned mine; clarity was never guaranteed.
From the side, Ganyu quietly committed the information to memory, her expression warming. Both the Qixing and Ganyu herself placed high priority on the Abyss Order's activities in Liyue. A force hidden in shadow, always acting under the veil of secrecy—whatever they planned, it could never be benign. Thus, the intelligence provided by Futsu Mitama's group was invaluable. Enough, in fact, to earn genuine goodwill from all seven Qixing.
"'Wangsi'? 'Lord'…?" Futsu Mitama repeated, an odd spark flickering in his eyes.
Could it be that what Shinobu heard was actually: "Kill all these crawling insects on the ground, for Lord Prince?"
If so, then it made sense—there was indeed a prince within the Abyss Order. So that meant the Traveler who would soon arrive would be Lumine, not "Brother Aether." Of course—why would Brother Aether be the Traveler? Lumine was strong, charming, and diligent about taking commissions. (My main MC is Lumine, sometimes when it was with a girl scenario, I lamented that this scenario perfect fit with the male MC; other time I found that some scene looks coquettish that its made me shiver when Aether done it.)
"Mm." Shinobu raised both hands in a modest shrug. "Please don't expect too much. My proficiency in the Abyss language isn't exactly impressive."
"When I was studying in Liyue, my teacher focused primarily on the Hilichurl language." "Later, by chance, he discovered certain structural similarities between Hilichurl speech and the Abyss tongue. That curiosity gradually led him deeper…and I simply learned along the way."
Ningguang's smile deepened, polished and serene. "That is more than sufficient. Your testimony confirms that the presence in the abandoned mine was indeed the Abyss Order."
Her eyes then drifted toward Futsu Mitama—brightening with unmistakable interest. "As for the Primo Geovishap… did you obtain anything from it?"
Her tone remained polite, but the gleam in her gaze was unmistakable.
All three of them felt the shift immediately. Ningguang had been attentive when discussing the Abyss—but the moment rare materials came into play, her enthusiasm sharpened considerably.
Beside her, Ganyu let out a quiet sigh. Yes… this was simply Miss Ningguang's nature.
As the Tianquan, her public conduct was impeccable—but as Liyue Harbor's most formidable merchant, her interest in rare goods surpassed even her official responsibilities.
And given the Millelith's earlier report—If Futsu Mitama truly carried Primo Geovishap meat and scales, then Ningguang's excitement made perfect sense.
"Oh, that."
Futsu Mitama met her gleaming gaze with an awkward expression. "We obtained a cut of its meat, and a large pile of shattered scales."
"The meat—some was given to Xiangling. Another portion we kept. All the scales were deposited with Guiyan Assembly. The Shopkeeper's Daughter made a sales contract with me for the scales."
He did not mention the rare ores; neither Ningguang nor the Shopkeeper's Daughter would care for anything but the Geovishap's materials. After all, both women were shrewd business elites. Their interest alone affirmed the value.
I really need to grow stronger—
The thought struck him with newfound clarity. Once he mastered Raiden Style • Martial Arts and the "Eight Directions Containing Jade to Shine" technique Zhongli promised to teach—
He would not slay the Primo Geovishap. He would simply take some meat and scales—and let it go. Resources, after all, should circulate.
Even if Geovishaps could evolve into Primo Geovishaps, centuries had passed without a second one emerging. That alone spoke to the true rarity of the creature.
"Guiyan Assembly?"
Ningguang cast a thoughtful glance at Aila, saying nothing more. She turned back to Futsu Mitama with a soft smile. "I see. I also maintain business ties with Guiyan Assembly. Entrusting your goods to them is certainly a sound choice…though I must admit, I feel a touch of regret."
She exhaled lightly. Truthfully, she had raised the question intending to acquire some of the materials herself. A creature as rare as a Primo Geovishap—its value was immeasurable. Its meat alone was prized so highly that Xiangling deemed it worth far more than a million mora.
And the scales—accepted by Guiyan Assembly even at a loss—would draw massive attention. Ningguang could already envision it: for a time, both Wanmin Restaurant and Guiyan Assembly would flourish, all thanks to Futsu Mitama.
A small, elegant pang of envy flickered through her. Had she only arrived sooner…
"However…would you be interested in offering this?"
Futsu Mitama reached into his pocket and produced a small vial of crimson liquid. The blood within bubbled, as though seething with intense heat.
"Oh?" Ningguang leaned forward ever so slightly. "Could this be Primo Geovishap blood?"
At that moment, she remembered— yes, besides its meat and scales, the Geovishap possessed something even rarer.
Its blood.
"Mm." Futsu Mitama handed the small vial of Geovishap blood to Ningguang, his tone steady. "This blood should fetch a fine price. Whether for medicine, forging, or alchemical work, I expect there will be no shortage of demand. There wasn't much meat or many scales… but the blood was plentiful."
His gaze drifted—subtle, questioning—toward Kuki Shinobu. Even now he still couldn't fathom how she had managed to gather so much Primo Geovishap blood in the midst of battle. At that time, he had been wholly focused on the creature itself; he never witnessed Shinobu catching every drop that rained down from above and bottling it neatly.
According to her, it was all thanks to Talisman Arts. But were Talisman Arts truly so versatile? Offense, defense, daily chores—at this point they seemed capable of accomplishing just about anything.
"Is that so?"
Ningguang had not expected a second surprise. She lifted her eyes to him, a soft, knowing smile curving her lips. "Then, might you consider listing this Geovishap blood for sale under my merchant guild? I assure you, you will receive a price that satisfies."
Futsu Mitama accepted—but not without conditions. He produced the materials required for the companion weapon and, in addition to selling the Geovishap blood, asked Ningguang to help track down the rarer components. If the Shopkeeper's Daughter failed to procure most of what he needed, he would rely on Ningguang instead.
He also requested her assistance in using the Geovishap blood to attempt the cultivation of a bloodjade branch. If the experiment succeeded, all the better. If not… he might need to seek out Azhdaha and ask the ancient dragon to offer one from his own body.
Ningguang agreed without hesitation. Gathering forging materials was trivial work for her, and cultivating a bloodjade branch was something she had long wished to attempt. After all, if the method became known, scholars in Sumeru would surely pay handsomely for it.
Once their terms were settled, Ningguang's attendants began drafting the contract. Kuki Shinobu skimmed it, then cast a complicated look Ningguang's way. It was yet another contract that granted Futsu Mitama benefits at virtually no cost. To encounter two contracts in one day that favored Party B so heavily—it was a rare experience indeed.
With everything arranged, Futsu Mitama and the others left behind a considerable amount of Primo Geovishap blood and prepared to depart.
Ningguang did not attempt to keep them. She simply noted that, once matters were handled, she hoped to share a meal with Futsu Mitama—there were things concerning Liyue and Inazuma she wished to discuss.
Futsu Mitama only smiled, saying he looked forward to it.
When the group had gone and the three attendants dismissed, the chamber finally quieted.
Only Ningguang and Ganyu remained.
"Ganyu," Ningguang began, her gaze turning thoughtful, "what is your assessment of Futsu Mitama and the information he brought?"
Though he had spoken openly, he was still a man of Inazuma. His testimony could not be taken at face value—yet he lacked any reason to deceive them. The Millelith's report of the abandoned mine incident matched nearly word for word with what he had described. And the ninja accompanying him understood the Abyss language well enough to catch what the Abyss Mage said—an unexpected and valuable discovery.
Ningguang trusted Ganyu's intuition for a reason. As a Qilin, her senses were sharp, able to discern the intentions of others.
"I believe they are trustworthy," Ganyu answered without hesitation. "At first, when I saw him fighting a Fatui Harbinger in the streets, I had my doubts. But after spending more time with him, I sensed his gentleness…and he even brought me a gift."
At the memory, Ganyu's cheeks warmed. The sea ganoderma he had given her had been exceptionally fresh—far fresher than anything delivered from Inazuma via long-distance transport. Preserving its flavor to such a degree must have required both ingenuity and care.
That alone had softened her heart toward him.
"I see. Then he must be a good sort." Ningguang's vigilance eased a fraction.
But her expression soon turned solemn. "However, regarding the Abyss Order's assault on the Geovishap Hatchling and the Geovishap itself… we must remain alert. The last time the Abyss Order appeared in Liyue, the disaster it caused was not insignificant."
The Qixing's view of the Abyss Order was unanimous: obstruct their schemes, force them back into the shadows, and keep them from disrupting peace on Teyvat.
Ganyu nodded in agreement. The Abyss Order had brought trouble not only to Liyue but to other nations as well—they were a natural enemy to all.
Yet after a moment of hesitation, she voiced her concern. "But… is it truly appropriate to involve them?"
She meant Futsu Mitama and his companions. Ningguang's invitation to the Jade Chamber had been deliberate—an open gesture of goodwill, a signal of alliance. If she only sought information, she could have sent anyone. The invitation implied intention.
"What would be inappropriate?" Ningguang replied comfortably as she plucked a pastry from the table. "They possess considerable strength, and they have their own reasons to remain in Liyue. Besides—based on the intelligence gathered these past two days, their relationship with the Fatui seems strained."
Her expression cooled. "And the Fatui have been restless as of late. Tartaglia in particular has been moving suspiciously."
The Fatui remained a thorn in her side. With the Rite of Descension approaching, the Abyss Order's movements, the Primo Geovishap activity, and now the Fatui's brewing trouble—Liyue had no shortage of burdens.
By fostering goodwill with Futsu Mitama now, Ningguang intended to secure a countermeasure for later. A waiting chess piece.
Ganyu fell silent, but ultimately offered no objection. Ningguang's reasoning was sound, and the alliance harmed no one.
"Oh, and Ganyu," Ningguang added, "I will trouble you to relay the news about the Primo Geovishap to the Adepti."
"It is my duty," Ganyu replied.
And with that, their discussion drew to a close.
Night descended.
After leaving the Jade Chamber, the trio did not return home. It was already dinner hour, and with Hu Tao's unpredictable cooking habits, returning to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor was—unwise.
Thus, without needing to speak, the three of them simply sought out a place to eat.
Having completed two major tasks that day, a celebratory meal was only fitting.
Futsu Mitama chose Liuli Pavilion.
The establishment was famed throughout Liyue Harbor—representing "Li Cuisine," while its rival, Xinyue Kiosk across the way, stood as the pride of "Yue Cuisine." The two restaurants had competed for years, equal parts colleagues and rivals.
Both were impossibly popular. Reservations required three months' notice—even officials and nobles had no privilege to cut the line. A contract was a contract. So how did Futsu Mitama and his companions get in?
Naturally, through Ningguang. As one of the Qixing, she possessed a few small privileges. She had gifted Futsu Mitama a token that allowed several meals at Liuli Pavilion.
A small gesture—yet an effective one.
Coincidentally, Tartaglia was also dining there that night with Zhongli, bypassing the reservation entirely with the Fatui's authority. The owners of Liuli Pavilion knew better than to offend the powerful—sometimes giving face was simply good business.
"I didn't expect it to be this easy." Kuki Shinobu exhaled as they were shown to a private room. She had once waited obediently for two months just to eat here.
Today, all it took was presenting Ningguang's token.
"It's true what they say—connections make all the difference." Futsu Mitama, too, marvelled at Ningguang's influence and her talent in winning people over.
Aila, however, sat quietly. Though her eyes rested on Futsu Mitama, her mind was clearly elsewhere. Both he and Kuki Shinobu sensed her distraction.
"What's wrong?" Shinobu asked openly once the door closed behind the staff. "Aila, has something been troubling you today? Is it because of what Mr. Zhongli and Lady Ningguang said?"
Aila blinked, gathering herself. Seeing their worried faces, she offered a soft apology. "I'm sorry for making you worry. But… yes. Hearing what they said…"
"I can't say it doesn't affect me. It's not curiosity. I'm afraid… if I leave my past untouched, those things may return someday and disrupt the life I have now."
Zhongli and Ningguang had claimed it was just a casual question—nothing more. But Aila could not dismiss it. She cherished her present life… and feared the unknown past that lay behind her. If she truly came from Liyue, why had she wandered to Inazuma as a child—memories lost?
At first she had chosen not to think about it. Forgotten memories were forgotten for a reason. But after today, she could no longer ignore the weight of her surname.
Futsu Mitama and Kuki Shinobu exchanged a glance, unsure how to reassure her—they were outsiders to her past.
Yet Aila's unease was clear.
So when the dishes began to arrive, Futsu Mitama quietly opened the Chat Group.
[Futsu Mitama: "@Zhongli Mr. Zhongli, are you there? When you asked Aila about her surname earlier… was there some deeper meaning behind it?"]
[Aila: "Young Master…"]
[Kuki Shinobu: "You're very direct."]
[Futsu Mitama: "Your words unsettled her. I should at least ask."]
[Aila: "…Mm."]
[Kuki Shinobu: "You're right. This is the best approach."]
[Yae Miko: "A question—are the three of you not sitting in the same room right now? Why are you messaging each other in the Chat Group? Couldn't you talk among yourselves first, then ask Mr. Zhongli?"]
At this, all three fell silent.
After all, yes—they were sitting in the same room. The atmosphere had simply been too delicate.
Soon, Zhongli appeared.
[Zhongli: "Hm? My inquiry caused distress? Then allow me to apologize. I truly spoke in passing."]
[Azhdaha: "What? What's this about?"]
[Raiden Makoto: "Come to think of it, we really don't know Aila's surname. Only that her name is Aila."]
[Kamisato Ayaka: "Eh? Aila isn't her full name???"]
[Sangonomiya Kokomi: "Unbelievable."]
[Albedo: "A matter of lineage, perhaps?"]
[Zhongli: "However… the reason I asked is because Aila resembles an old acquaintance of mine."]
[Zhongli: "Her family left Liyue many years ago. It's said they traveled across nations searching for their missing daughter."]
[Yae Miko: "Hmm? A missing daughter?" ]
[Futsu Mitama: "Could it be…"]
[Aila: "…"]
[Zhongli: "No. Their daughter has black hair, not white hair like Miss Aila's." ]
[Zhongli: "And while the name 'Aila' is similar, it is not uncommon. There are several people with that name in Liyue Harbor." ]
[Azhdaha: "Hah. Since when does the world produce so many coincidences?" ]
[Raiden Makoto: "Isn't that practically a confirmation already? Wait—Aila is actually from Liyue?! Inazuma has lost a prodigy!" ]
[Azhdaha: "Hahahahaha!" ]
[Raiden Makoto: "Azhdaha, what are you laughing at?" ]
[Azhdaha: "Nothing. Just recalled something amusing. Hahahahaha!" ]
[Raiden Makoto: "You—!"]
[Aila: "Mr. Zhongli… do you know where they are now?" ]
[Zhongli: "I do not. The couple departed from Liyue Harbor seven years ago." ]
[Futsu Mitama: "Wait—seven years???" ]
Outside the Chat Group, Futsu Mitama lifted his gaze toward Aila, surprise flickering in his eyes. From Zhongli's explanation, it was all but certain—Aila truly originated from Liyue. But why she had ended up in Inazuma remained entirely unknown. There were countless possibilities, and so Futsu Mitama refrained from jumping to conclusions.
But one thing he remembered with clarity: he had arrived in this world five years ago.
Which meant that before his transmigration, Aila had already been abducted. At that time, she would have been only eight or nine years old. And with her black hair turned white, it was likely she had endured some kind of experiment—along with the extraordinary talent she now possessed.
Futsu Mitama's thoughts drifted to a certain storyline. The Genshin Impact manga—Dottore's human experiments in Mondstadt. Combined with Dottore's existence as a being of countless "slices," an ominous suspicion took shape.
Perhaps Aila, too, had been injected with remnants of an Archon. Much like Collei—no, like the Collei from Sumeru's tale.
She might have survived, escaped whatever research site she was held in, but lost her memories in the process. Her hair turning white, her consciousness fractured. Then, for reasons unknown, she wandered all the way to the streets of Inazuma City—where she eventually crossed paths with Futsu Mitama.
With all these possibilities swirling, Futsu Mitama concluded one thing: he needed an opportunity to meet Dottore. Any "segment," from any era, would suffice—so long as it possessed the information he sought.
Inside the Chat Group, Zhongli continued speaking.
[Zhongli: "Yes. Seven years ago, their child was abducted on the street. The culprit remains unknown. The loss of their daughter devastated the couple. They employed every method they could, sought the aid of the Liyue Qixing, rallied friends and family, and even… they brought forth the talisman of everlasting morality passed down through their lineage." ]
[Azhdaha: "The talisman of everlasting morality? That relic is exceedingly rare now. It was a token Morax once bestowed upon the people." ]
[Azhdaha: "With it, one may request an audience with those fellows." ]
[Kamisato Ayaka: "'Those fellows'?" ]
[Sangonomiya Kokomi: "The Adepti, correct? I've read of this in Liyue's records. The talisman of everlasting morality is often referred to as the 'Immortal Connection.'" ]
[Yae Miko: "Indeed. Once, someone from Inazuma obtained such a talisman, met a legendary Adeptus, learned Adeptal arts, and from that lineage, Onmyodo was born." ]
[Yae Miko: "But if that's the case… even after involving the Qixing and the Adepti, they still couldn't find her?" ]
[Kuki Shinobu: "That level of influence is terrifying. In theory, that would mean mobilizing the entire power of Liyue to search for one missing child." ]
[Raiden Makoto: "Was too much time already lost?" ]
[Zhongli: "Precisely. After entrusting the Qixing, they believed their daughter would be found quickly. But half a month passed, and no trace appeared." ]
[Zhongli: "Only then did they reveal the talisman of everlasting morality. Yet by that point, far too much time had elapsed. Even with Adeptal intervention, the trail was already cold." ]
[Zhongli: "However, the Adepti did glean one thing: the child was still alive. But where she had gone… they could not discern. Only that she was no longer in Liyue." ]
[Aila: "Thank you. But… even with this knowledge, I still have no clear direction." ]
[Zhongli: "Which is why I entrusted the talisman to you. You may visit Mt. Aocang. An Adeptus there might be able to examine what has happened to your body." ]
[Azhdaha: "Mt. Aocang? Ah yes—that would be Cloud Retainer's abode. I wonder how that old crane is faring. Her little mechanical toys are quite decent, I suppose." ]
[Kamisato Ayaka: "How blessed! Aila, Young Master, and Miss Shinobu are going to meet an Adeptus?" ]
[Sangonomiya Kokomi: "If the Resistance didn't keep me so busy, I would have joined them in Liyue." ]
[Sangonomiya Kokomi: "Energy -1. Energy -1. Energy -1." ]
[Kuki Shinobu: "But… Mr. Zhongli knows far too much. Even matters regarding the Adepti. Could it be… that you yourself are an Adeptus?" ]
[Raiden Makoto: "I was wondering the same. His knowledge is simply too vast." ]
[Azhdaha: "What are you all guessing? If Zhongli were an Adeptus, I would have recognized him the moment he entered the group." ]
[Azhdaha: "Among Liyue's Adepti, there is not one I would fail to identify. Their mannerisms alone give them away." ]
[Zhongli: "Hm… indeed, I am not an Adeptus." ]
[Azhdaha: "Exactly! How could Zhongli possibly be an Adeptus!" ]
[Futsu Mitama: "…"]
[Kuki Shinobu: "Our dishes have arrived. Signing off for now." ]
[Azhdaha: "Wait! @Futsu Mitama @Kuki Shinobu @Aila — if you go to see Cloud Retainer, remember to livestream it." ]
[Azhdaha: "It has been ages since I last saw her. I wonder how she's doing." ]
[Futsu Mitama: "Understood." ]
[Azhdaha: "@Futsu Mitama, one more thing." ]
[Azhdaha: "Cloud Retainer is fond of curious little trinkets—mechanical toys and the like. I don't see the appeal myself, but she enjoys them." ]
[Azhdaha: "With such an offering, she'll be far more inclined to help you. And with the talisman of everlasting morality, she surely will." ]
Truly, having an elder was like having a treasure chest of knowledge. Azhdaha's advice was invaluable. Futsu Mitama vaguely recalled the Lantern Rite—how the two "Fowl Meat True Monarchs" had been delighted by the firework launchers, even offering rare praise to the Liyue Qixing.
Still… Futsu Mitama glanced at Zhongli's chat avatar. Even through the screen, he could sense Zhongli's subtle discomfort. He had revealed too much. Enough to stir Kuki Shinobu's and Raiden Makoto's suspicions. Certainly Yae Miko, too, must have begun to wonder whether Zhongli was truly human—or an Adeptus in disguise. His experience was immense, his knowledge ancient, and he possessed the talisman of everlasting morality…
Yet while everyone pondered whether Zhongli was an Adeptus, Azhdaha was absolutely convinced he was not. Azhdaha, after all, was one of Liyue's founders. He knew every Adeptus personally, their habits, their cadence of speech.
And although he found something familiar—something Morax-like—in Zhongli, since the man called himself "Zhongli" and not "Morax," Azhdaha naturally concluded he couldn't possibly be the Geo Archon. Just a Liyue scholar with exceptional talent.
The thought made Futsu Mitama want to laugh. He could hardly wait to see Azhdaha's expression when the truth eventually surfaced.
By now, all the dishes at Liuli Pavilion had been served. Truly worthy of its reputation—its speed alone was astonishing. In less than twenty minutes, every item they ordered had arrived. Futsu Mitama and the others began to eat, talking quietly between bites.
"Strange." Kuki Shinobu tasted her dish, then frowned slightly. "That Mr. Zhongli knows too much."
"If Azhdaha hadn't insisted he wasn't an Adeptus, I would've suspected he was one living in seclusion in Liyue Harbor."
"The last person who gave me this feeling was the former Electro Archon."
Indeed, Shinobu felt deeply conflicted. Her intuition told her Zhongli was no ordinary citizen. She had initially assumed he was merely a gentleman with 'a little knowledge' of many subjects. Liyue was home to many learned experts—rare, yes, but not unheard of.
But someone like Zhongli? Truly unusual. No matter what the topic, he explained it with clarity—and with the tone of someone who had witnessed it firsthand. It was uncanny. The last person to give her this impression had been Raiden Makoto herself.
A fleeting thought crossed her mind: could Zhongli be one of Morax's incarnations?
But the notion vanished as quickly as it came. Impossible. Azhdaha would have recognized Morax instantly—wouldn't he?
"Hm…" Futsu Mitama noticed Shinobu's conflicted expression but chose not to comment. He himself was looking forward to witnessing her reaction when Zhongli's true identity was revealed.
Turning to Aila, he asked softly, "When would you like to visit the Adeptus?"
Aila lifted the talisman of everlasting morality Zhongli had entrusted to her. She stared at it for a moment before raising her head, her wine-red eyes reflecting Futsu Mitama's figure.
"Young Master… if possible, may we visit the Adeptus tomorrow?"
It was perhaps the first time Aila had voiced such a personal request. She wanted to see the Adeptus. Although she had appeared calm when Zhongli spoke, his words had reached her heart. After all, that couple had sought the Qixing, invoked an ancestral talisman, and even appealed to the Adepti—all for the sake of finding their daughter.
Aila didn't know if she was truly that child. But there were many mysteries in her life waiting to be unraveled.
