Seraphim's POV

The silence in the room had been thick, heavy, and suffocating, it had felt like a physical entity pressing down on my chest ever since Grey first walked in, after the horrifying revelation that had shattered the fragile truce we had maintained. He stood there now, near the foot of the mahogany bed, his posture no longer that of the cold, unshakeable Grey I knew, but of a man stripped bare, standing precariously on the edge of a cliff.

He had just delivered his apology, a few clipped, formal words that initially only grated against my raw nerves. I remembered how the very sound of his voice had ignited a fresh wave of betrayal, yet, before I could articulate the scathing rejection forming on my tongue, he pressed on, and the true reason for the press announcement came out, transforming the atmosphere from icy confrontation to stunned bewilderment.
