Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 Map Drawing

Chapter 38 Map Drawing

Revealing the existence of the harpy eagle to the Deng family was a decision Qin Ziwen made after careful consideration.

After all, having such a large eagle flying in and out of the window every day posed a significant risk of exposure, and it would inevitably be discovered eventually.

Rather than passively revealing it, it was better to actively expose it.

He could use the harpy eagle to test the Deng family's reaction.

Moreover, sewing such a close-fitting item couldn't be done by hand; the result would be loose. Only through close-up adjustments and personal measurements could a perfectly fitted backpack be made, preventing the phone from falling out.

Qin Ziwu was excited: "Brother! Now the harpy eagle has become a reconnaissance position! The camera on its chest can see farther than we can see ourselves."

"Yes, it can hang a phone on its chest to record, allowing it to remotely record in many places we can't easily go. The only problem is my phone's battery is low; I need to charge it." Qin Ziwen pondered, quickly coming up with a clever charging solution.

The garage had so many cars, all of which were good for charging. Many car infotainment systems had USB ports; although the charging speed wasn't fast, it was stable. "

Now, let's use the power bank at home. Take out the power bank with 23% battery left from the drawer and charge the phone to 57%.

Secure the phone to the harpy eagle's chest, carry it to the rooftop, and turn on recording mode.

"After takeoff, fly around the neighborhood once, don't fly too high. If you encounter other birds in the sky, don't fight, retreat immediately, understand?"

"Awooo~" the harpy eagle cried out.

Qin Ziwen let go, watching the harpy eagle fly into the sky, its figure getting smaller and smaller.

He was a little worried; in the treacherous wild, the harpy eagle might encounter danger, but he understood even more that he couldn't let a small setback prevent him from trying.

The harpy eagle circled the sky once, Qin Ziwen's gaze following it.

Suddenly, in the distance, a black dot was approaching the harpy eagle.

The harpy eagle began to flee, the black dot relentlessly chasing, the two circling in the sky.

The harpy eagle's speed gradually increased, diving downwards, the distance between it and the black dot behind it constantly increasing.

  "Flap flap flap."

The harpy eagle flapped its wings, swooping down to land on the rooftop.

The black dot overhead stopped approaching after getting a certain distance, circled once, and then flew away.

After landing, the harpy eagle kept rubbing its head against Qin Ziwen's shoulder.

Qin Ziwen patted its head, comforting it, "It's okay, it's okay, I know you were scared."

Unexpectedly, the harpy eagle became agitated, howling

and scratching at the air with its claws, looking defiant. After

calming it down for a while, Qin Ziwen took out his overheated phone, turned off the recording, and then took the harpy eagle downstairs to their home.

  Checking the phone's contents,

he saw that the takeoff footage was shaky, only gradually becoming clear as the gliding became smoother.

From the air, the residential area below looked square, with many people moving in and out like ants.

Dense forests surrounded the area, and a river flowed east to west through the south side of the residential area. From the air, the blue-green river looked like a jade ribbon embedded in the forest.

To the north were vast, continuous mountain ranges, and further south of the river were more mountains; the residential area was situated in a buffer zone between these two mountain ranges.

The western area is flat, with a large expanse of lush green grassland surrounded by darker trees.

Downstream from the residential area, the mountains on both sides gradually open up, stretching out to a wide plain.

Overall, the residential area is situated in a "mountain valley" between two mountain ranges, a complex terrain characterized by mountains, a flat middle section, and an open downstream area.

Given the presence of animals like crocodiles and pythons, and the humid air, it should be tropical? Subtropical?

Qin Ziwen shook his head. So many years had passed; his geographical knowledge had long been forgotten. Besides, this wasn't Earth; Earth knowledge could only be used as a reference.

  "Hmm?" he exclaimed in surprise.

In the latter half of the video, the harpy eagle increased its speed, emitting a ferocious cry.

At a bend in the road, a fleeting glimpse on the camera showed a gray-black bird chasing the harpy eagle.     Judging from the footage, this bird wasn't the giant bird that attacked their neighborhood, but another kind of bird, and not as big as the giant bird.

Finally, the harpy eagle swooped down, shaking off its prey, and landed on the rooftop of Building 8.

Taking out paper and pen, Qin Ziwen paused the video every now and then to draw a map. Soon, a detailed map was completed.

Qin Ziwu stroked his chin, looking at the map with a puzzled expression: "Brother, what did you draw? It feels a bit abstract."

  "A map." "

  What's this?"

  "Mountains."

  "And this?

  " "Grassland."

  "What's this triangular symbol?"

  "Altitude marker."

Qin Ziwu nodded slowly, "Your map looks like it's encrypted; most people can't understand it."

Qin Ziwen's face darkened, and he tossed the pen and paper over, "You try."

Qin Ziwu chuckled, quickly waving his hand. He was just joking; if he were to actually draw it, it would be a jumble of characters, the kind he himself couldn't understand.

With a soft hum, Qin Ziwen picked up his pen. "I've finished drawing the general map. Now we need to draw a more detailed one. We know there are wolves in the grasslands to the west, so we can't go there. We can't go to the other side of the river to the south for the time being, so we either have to go north or east." Qin Ziwen took out his phone again, pausing and zooming in repeatedly.

"Look here, doesn't it look like a cave?"

Qin Ziwen pointed to a spot on the mountainside to the north.

"It looks like one, but it's a bit far from our neighborhood. It might take half a day to get there from here?" " It's probably more

than that. The forest here hasn't been developed, and the road is difficult to walk. We'll have to go uphill to get there."

"The river branches off downstream, and there's a tributary here." Qin Ziwen pointed downstream.

Judging from the distance, it's at least seven or eight miles away, and the plains further downstream are even farther away, at least twenty or thirty miles away.

"Put on your gear, we're heading east. There are more explorers there, and we haven't heard of any large beasts. We can handle small and medium-sized animals."

Qin Ziwen started packing, sending his younger brother upstairs to Deng Guang's house. This exploration was mainly to gather more detailed terrain information on the east side. To maintain the team's mobility, the three men, along with the harpy eagle, would walk downstream along the riverbank, searching for suitable locations to set traps.

The two families quickly met downstairs.

Xiao Xuemei thoughtfully helped Deng Guang adjust his clothes and equipment.

Deng Wen whispered, "Dad, be careful."

Deng Guang's eyes softened: "Don't worry, I'm with your brother Qin and the others, there won't be any danger."

He waved goodbye, and the three crossed the residential area towards the east gate.

"Qin Ziwen?" A familiar yet unfamiliar voice came from the right.

Qin Ziwen turned his head and saw it was Wang Juan, his former supervisor.

But compared to the first day, Wang Juan looked much worse, her eyes filled with fatigue, lacking the arrogance of the first day.

Wang Juan whispered, "Could I borrow some food?"

Qin Ziwen was baffled: "Are we that close?"

Qin Ziwu, holding a long stick, retorted directly, "No! Even if I had, I wouldn't lend it to you. You have hands and feet, don't you know how to find food yourself! How can you be so shameless? Everyone needs food these days, and you just open your mouth to ask for it."

Wang Juan's face turned pale, and she gave a bitter laugh: "My husband was bitten by a poisonous snake and died. I haven't eaten for a day. Please, have mercy."
