Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Those Eyes as Bright as Stars!

"You... work here?" Su Yi paused, then asked.

Xu Xiaopeng nodded and said,

"Yes, I'm a data risk controller for this company. After graduation, I've been with this company. Are you here at our company to... conduct business?"

"Mm." Su Yi replied.

"To handle some financing business at your company."

"You... aren't you a trader at 'Huaxi Capital'?" Xu Xiaopeng wondered.

"Can traders at public fund companies, especially large institutions like 'Huaxi Capital', also privately trade stocks?"

"How did you know I joined 'Huaxi Capital'?" Su Yi asked, surprised.

Xu Xiaopeng said,

"Among our class graduates, there aren't many who went on to postgraduate studies and could get into major asset management institutions in the industry.

Sometimes, in the class chat group, everyone chats and discusses their post-graduation plans, and you get mentioned as well. So... many classmates know you joined 'Huaxi Capital'."

"Oh."

Su Yi realized.

Due to his family background, he came to a big city like Modu.

During college, the impression he gave was that he was quite reclusive and didn't have much of a social circle.

Therefore, he didn't have any particularly close college classmates around him.

After graduation, he didn't have much contact with these classmates, nor did he join any college classmate groups as Xu Xiaopeng mentioned.

Naturally, news about classmates would seem relatively limited to him.

"Xiao Xu, have you finished photocopying the documents I need?"

Just as Xu Xiaopeng was about to ask Su Yi some other questions, the voice of the supervising manager echoed from a distance.

Xu Xiaopeng quickly replied "Coming right away."

Then smiled at Su Yi and said,

"Su Yi, let's have a good chat next time we have some free time. I have some work to do now, so I won't say more."

"Okay!"

Su Yi responded with a smile.

Immediately, the two quickly parted ways.

Leaving 'Yinghui Finance' company, Su Yi went to the supermarket to buy some fruits and vegetables, then returned to the residential community where he lived.

"Off work so early?"

In the community elevator, Su Yi again met the middle-aged man who lived next door to him and had waited for the elevator with him that morning.

The man glanced at the fruits Su Yi was carrying, then smiled and greeted him proactively,

"The lychees on the market this season should be 'Dahongpao', right? Where did you buy them? They look quite fresh."

Su Yi replied,

"Just the supermarket near the community."

"Oh!"

The middle-aged man said,

"I'll go check tomorrow too. My daughter loves lychees."

As he spoke, the middle-aged man glanced at his daughter beside him.

At this moment, Su Yi also followed his gaze and saw a girl of about fifteen or sixteen standing beside the middle-aged man.

The girl was wearing a white dress, holding a guitar in her arms, with fair skin and delicate features.

She was a very beautiful girl.

Of course, what caught Su Yi's attention the most were her eyes.

Her eyes were very bright and clear, like two brilliant stars, and also like a spring with a clear bottom, easily drawing one's gaze in.

Besides these, at the girl's feet was a small dog on a leash.

Su Yi couldn't tell what breed the puppy was.

The creature looked around, appearing very alert, not quite like a typical pet dog.

"The supermarket happens to be having a sale, and I bought extra."

Su Yi had a good impression of the middle-aged man, so he couldn't help but separate a portion of the lychees in his hand and handed them to the man,

"Anyway, I can't eat so many by myself. If I leave them till tomorrow, they'll most likely go bad. If your daughter likes them, why don't you help me finish some?"

"No, this won't do!"

The middle-aged man quickly declined.

Su Yi pressed the lychees into his hand, smiling as he continued,

"If I can't eat them, they'll just go to waste."

The middle-aged man continued to decline a few more times, but seeing Su Yi's persistence and the elevator having stopped at their residential floor, he couldn't help but say,

"Alright then, thank you!"

After speaking, he asked his daughter to say 'thank you' to Su Yi.

The girl smiled and said 'thank you' to Su Yi, then, holding her guitar and led by the puppy on its leash, she walked to her front door, waiting for her father to open it.

Su Yi glanced at the father and daughter's backs, then turned and opened the door to his own room.

When he put down the fruits and vegetables in his hands, changed his clothes, and was about to make dinner, there was a knock on the door.

Su Yi pulled open the door.

He saw the girl he had met in the elevator, leading a puppy, holding a large fruit platter with sliced, chilled watermelon:

"My dad said it's very hot today, and eating some chilled watermelon will be cooler."

"Thank you."

Su Yi took the fruit platter and replied.

He knew it was a return of courtesy, so he did not refuse.

"You're welcome,"

The girl whispered in reply, then added,

"Sorry for disturbing you last night. I'll be quieter when I practice singing at night from now on."

Seeing that she seemed to care about this, Su Yi couldn't help but chuckle softly and said,

"It's alright, the sound insulation in this apartment is good, so it won't affect my sleep too much, and... you sing very well."

"Is it really that good?"

The girl's expression clearly brightened with happiness.

"Mm!"

Su Yi recalled the faint singing he had heard last night and nodded.

"Can you... wait for me for a moment?"

The girl asked again after hearing Su Yi's affirmative answer.

After speaking, without waiting for Su Yi's reply, she quickly went back to the adjacent room, leading the puppy that was barking at Su Yi.

Then, after Su Yi waited for two or three minutes, the girl returned, still leading the puppy.

"This is a ticket to my weekend performance."

The girl handed a ticket to Su Yi.

Su Yi glanced at it and saw the words '4th Youth 'The Voice' Music Vocal Competition' on the ticket, along with the organizer and venue address.

Of course, such tickets are usually by invitation and free of charge.

"You want me to watch your competition?"

Su Yi asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Mm!"

The girl nodded.

Su Yi thought for a moment and said,

"This ticket... you could give it to other people, like your dad, or your mom."

"My dad has one, and my mom... has passed away," The girl replied,

"My grandparents and maternal grandparents are also long gone."

Hearing the latter half of the girl's sentence, Su Yi felt a pang in his heart and said,

"Alright, I'll take this ticket. I'll definitely go this weekend."

Seeing him agree, the girl smiled at him happily again, then led the puppy back to the adjacent room.

It was only then that Su Yi realized.

Whether coming or going, the girl had been feeling her way along the hallway wall, and the puppy, which occasionally barked at him, had been running in front of her, leading the way, from beginning to end.

And only at this moment.

Did Su Yi recall that it was a guide dog that hadn't fully grown up yet.
