Chapter 2 - Genesis of Order

"A very long time ago, before the grand unfolding of creation, there existed only nothingness, an endless, echoing vacuum known only as Isfet.

In a swift, silent stirring, Isfet brought forth the Ogdoad, the primordial beings. Four feminine counterparts and four masculine forces. These were the primeval waters, named Nun and Naunet, the infinite void, Heh and Haunet, the utter darkness, called Kek and Kauket, and the invisible and the hidden, Amun and Amaunet.

All nine of these eternal entities drifted aimlessly, lacking all sense of direction, bereft of purpose, utterly without design. This ceaseless stagnation endured until Nun and Naunet finally united, giving rise to a small mound that emerged upon the surface of the infinite water. They named this sacred protuberance Benben. The small mound, Benben, grew ever larger, ever more significant, until at last, it cracked and burst forth!

From this momentous rupture, an illuminating being shone upon the world, an entity whose very existence separated the day from the night, and Order from Chaos. The mighty sun had been born! Due to the triumph and the overwhelming joy of its arrival, this glorious celestial power was instantly given a magnificent appellation.

They called him Ra.

Ra shone with such transcendent brilliance that everywhere he traveled, the oppressive nothingness seemed to be utterly outshined and vanquished by his light. This sudden imposition of form immediately threatened the void, Isfet, who swiftly generated the fearsome serpent Apep to eliminate Ra and reclaim the darkness. This impending conflict greatly angered the primordials, compelling them to establish an Order, a universal law, and an absolute Balance, Ma'at. This cosmic order proposed a singular law that must henceforth be obeyed by every subsequent creation. Should any defy or seek to eliminate this sacred law, the chaos and nothingness of Isfet would immediately reclaim that which was brought forth.

The nothingness, sensing a perpetual opportunity in this fragile balance, assented to the Order's proposal and awaited the moment the cosmic law might be undone. Governed by the strictures of Ma'at, Ra was thus able to rule the nascent world without catastrophic obstacle. He brought forth the air and the rain, the union of which forged the majestic Nile. Following the embrace of the air and the rain, the very earth and the boundless sky were born. From the earth and the sky, four essential beings came into existence they were Osiris, Iris, Set, and Nephthys. From that point forward, taking the form of a man, Ra reigned supreme over the world and took up residence in a land of unparalleled fertility.

That land, it was called Egypt."
