Chapter 2 - Chapter - 2 "The Voldemort Returns"

Harry is sleeping beside Ginny, the house at peace — until the dream came. In the dream a voice called his name, slow and hollow. He smiled, warm and far away, until a dark figure slid from the smoke and spoke: "HARRY POTTER… HARRY POTTER, I AM COMING."

Memories of his old war flared in Harry's mind: echoes of pain, of empty corridors and cold laughter. A smaller, frightened voice called, "Albus… Dad?" and the dream folded into a new horror. Voldemort's shadow fell over Albus. Harry tried to pull him back; he reached out, but something cold struck his son. He woke with a gasp.

Ginny was already awake, hand on his forehead. "Harry? What—" She handed him a bottle of water as he fought for breath. "Albus," he said, ragged. "Hogwarts—danger." Ginny's face went white and she slipped into unconsciousness.

Harry fumbled for his phone and called Professor McGonagall. When she answered, he told her about the dream; she listened, voice steady but wary. Then, through her window, Minerva saw orange leaping above the Forbidden Forest — real flames, not a nightmare.

Something in Minerva's room stirred. A knock that was no knock, a presence that did not belong. "Who's there?" she demanded. A voice from the dark, cold and patient, answered: "Long time, Minerva. You fought well beside Potter. I hate the brave."

The lights died. A shadow moved. Minerva's hand went to her wand; she threw up a Patronus, silver and defiant — and felt it fall like mist. The thing in the dark laughed. "You fought me once," it hissed. "You will watch me destroy them now." A curse struck Minerva; her limbs froze, her breath caught. She tried to speak: "Dark… Vol—" and then she collapsed.

Across town, at breakfast and in rooms, Albus stirred from a nightmare of his own: he had seen Harry fall, stabbed, and he'd called for his father with a voice that cracked. Frank and James woke to the soft crash of glass. Outside, bushes along the edge of the Forbidden Forest smoked and smoldered into ash.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione arrived at Hogwarts as the castle woke to the same terror. Harry's scar flared with a white-hot pain. "Ah—" He doubled over. Hermione grabbed his arm. "Harry, what is it?" he could only point to the mark. It was swelling, angry and raw.

They found Professor McGonagall on the floor, dazed and whispering one word: "Save—Hogwarts." Before they could draw answers from her, the cry came: Albus was screaming.

Albus had been walking the outer grounds when a cloaked figure rose from the shadows and called him by name. "I am your father's old friend," it said, voice soft and mocking. Albus demanded to know how it knew his name. The thing did not answer; it smiled a smile that showed no face and vanished like smoke, leaving the boy trembling.

Harry, Ron and Hermione ran toward the sound and found Albus seized, lifted from the ground and carried like a ragdoll. "Show yourself!" Hermione shouted. The dark man turned; Voldemort's eyes — pale, cold, and unmistakable — met theirs.

"Poor Harry Potter," the voice said, bitter and triumphant. "You thought me gone. A Horcrux you destroyed still lived. I have returned." Bellatrix slipped from the black, grinning. Peter Pettigrew moved like a shadow at her side.

A poisoned blade flashed. Ron fell. Hermione crumpled as Bellatrix's hand pressed against her. Harry lunged for Albus, but a barbed thing struck his shoulder; venom burned through him. His friends lay scattered, breathing ragged and failing.

Voldemort's voice was a blade. "You have ten days," he said, voice seared into Harry's mind. "No antidote will reach you unless you bring it. Fail, and you and yours will die without the lift of a finger. I take your son now — to prove what it is to lose everything. You will watch. You will know the pain you caused me."

Albus' eyes searched his father's one last time. "Daddy…?" he whispered, tears shining. Harry reached — but shadows swallowed the boy and the Dark Lord with him. Bellatrix laughed as they faded. Peter Pettigrew vanished into the dark wind.

On the hill, James, Rose and Scorpius ran toward the ruined bushes and the injured forms below, breath and courage colliding in a single thought: the war had come back to them.

Harry's world narrowed to a single, burning certainty: Voldemort had returned — and he had taken something Harry could not afford to lose.
