Chapter 1 - Prologue Firsts Bursts of Chaos

The day was bright and sunny, the sky a perfect blue with just a few lazy clouds drifting by. For most people, it was the kind of day that made you happy to be out and about in Patch.

But not everyone was having such a good day.

For Ruby Rose, things just couldn't seem to go right. First, she woke up late and missed breakfast. Then, in her rush to get to school, she left her lunch sitting on the kitchen counter. And as if that wasn't enough, her combat class with Uncle Qrow ended in yet another disappointment , no matter how hard she tried, her Semblance still refused to awaken.

By the time the sun began to dip behind the trees, Ruby couldn't help but wonder if she'd ever unlock it at all.

And to top it all off, Yang , my oh so thoughtful sister , decided to ditch me at the last minute to hang out with her friends, leaving me to walk home alone.

So there I was, trudging down the path, feeling about as cheerful as an uneaten cookie. I was minding my own business when suddenly , as if the gods themselves had decided to throw me a bone , I heard a strange noise.

It sounded like the pop of a balloon.

Pop

( The dice results 3/17= https://rwby.fandom.com/wiki/Petal_Burst- the Semblance of Ruby Rose, allowing her quick bursts of movement and near‑instant intangibility.)

That's when it happened.

In an instant, I felt it , my Semblance. It flared to life out of nowhere, a rush of energy surging through me like lightning. I didn't need to think to know what it was called. Somehow, I just knew.

Petal Burst.

The name echoed in my mind, and instinct took over. I could feel it , energy gathering inside me, begging to be released. Then, before I even realized what I was doing, I moved.

At first, I was in disbelief. Then came shock. Then excitement , the kind of wild, uncontrollable excitement that makes you forget everything else.

So, of course, I did what any reasonable Huntress in training would do.

I used it.

One second I was standing still, and the next I was flying down the path, dashing around like I'd eaten way too many cookies. The world blurred around me , the trees, the sunlight, the dirt beneath my boots , all melting into streaks of color.

The wind whipped through my hair, and petals , real or not, I couldn't tell , swirled in my wake. I felt weightless. Fast. Free. Faster than I'd ever imagined possible.

It was everything I'd dreamed of and more.

So naturally, I did the only logical thing any reasonable Huntress in training would do in this situation.

Using my Semblance, I ran straight home , screaming at the top of my lungs the entire way.

Not even noticing the second pop that echoed somewhere behind me.
