Chapter 1 - One Like…

Imagine you like a girl named Carol, but you don't want to text her because she already has a boyfriend, and you're scared she'll ignore you. Then, you see she posts a photo and you decide to like it. That's it—or at least, that's what you think.

A few days later, you post a picture too, and surprisingly, you get a message from her. You open it, and it says:

"Hey, how are you?"

You try to contain your excitement, since it's the girl you like, the one you've told your best friend about and dreamed of dating. You decide to play it cool and reply with something simple:

"Hey, I'm good, and you?"

Even though it's just a basic answer, it's the kind of reply that could open a lot of doors. Luckily for you, that's exactly what happens, because she answers:

"I'm good! By the way, nice photo haha."

Wow. You didn't expect that, did you? Things are moving so fast it feels unreal. You reply:

"Thank you! The photo you posted a few days ago was really nice too haha."

From there, you start talking all afternoon. You talk so much that you completely lose track of time—it might've been five hours, but to you it felt like ten minutes.

The next day, you text her again, and the two of you get even closer. You learn more about each other, and even though the connection feels amazing, you can't forget she still has a boyfriend. It makes you feel a little down, so you decide to ask about him.

"Hey, how's your boyfriend?" you ask.

"I guess he's fine haha, I haven't really talked to him today since I've been talking to you," Carol replies.

That's not the answer you were expecting. Why would she ignore her boyfriend just to talk to someone she met two days ago?

You try to play it off, even though your heart is racing.

"Hahaha," you reply.

The next day you see her at school, and you both decide to spend recess together. You talk, laugh, and get to know each other even more. Then, from a distance, you see a kid trip and fall, it makes you both laugh so hard you realize how close you've become.

You look into each other's eyes and kiss.

How did that happen? You can't even believe it. Just a few days ago, you were dreaming of talking to her, and now you're kissing her. Crazy how life works, right?

The next day, you decide to confess your feelings. You're nervous, but determined. You buy her flowers, chocolates, and write her a letter.

When you get to school, you walk straight to her and tell her everything, but she just laughs and says she's only ever seen you as a friend. Then she rejects you, right in front of everyone.

Now all your friends are laughing at you. You feel sad, angry—you even start to hate her a little. It feels like she was playing with you all along. But what's done is done. Everyone at school talks about you now, making fun of what happened. You spend recess alone.

Until one day, a new girl shows up. She notices you sitting there, looking sad, and decides to talk to you. That's how your friendship begins.
