SELENE'S POV
KINGDOM OF BEITANNIA
Countless years of hard work and determination gone down the drain just for some stupid wedding, my dream has been dumped in the gutters for an alliance. Well, that does it doesn't it, I had starved myself for this day and it just turns into a wedding where people come to make connections and display their wealth. I love being a noble don't get me wrong and I loved reading books well if I were to choose between a book and my life as it is I would choose my life, I mean who would give up this life as a noble for a book, pft but today I will give it all up for a book than to get married I had seen how miserable my mom and the other ladies are, even my friends had the life drained out of their eyes after their marriage and now I was getting into it too. I needed to find a way out of this and fast really fast. "Can I come in" that should be my mom in her thick British accent. Yeah, I guess. Her scent filled the room the instance she opened the door and as graceful as she strode in, her eyes was lifeless only the emotion of having to let me go that was it. I could see her through the mirror even though the room was lit by candles only and know she was standing behind me I could see her eyes clearly. "Have you been crying mother" But she just patted me on the shoulder and left and I knew it was time. "Everyone is waiting in the ballroom my lady", I took in a deep breath and walked out and as I reached the doors to the ballroom, I suddenly had the urge to turn around and run but I knew it would be useless so I signaled for the guards to open the doors. I walked with my head held high but I could see no groom, of course he wouldn't show up, I meant nothing to him just another asset he would have in his possession and that made me sick to the bone, the ceremony went on as it should, and my supposed husband made his trusted servant take his place after the ceremony I was led out and into the carriage with countless people there to watch as I left my homeland the place grew the only place I have known it suddenly dawned on me that I would be going to a place I have never been to, to start a life with a man I have never heard of. So, I thought of a way out. "Stop the carriage, I am in dire need to use the lady's room but don't worry I'd make use of the bushes." "My lady it may not be safe enough for you here why don't you hold it a little longer, we are almost there.""Well, if I could hold it any longer then I wouldn't have told you to let me use the bushes, right." I made my voice firm and refused to back down from his stair. "At least let some of the guards accompany you, my lady." "I never disagreed to that." My heart was threatening to leap out of my chest as I made my way through the bushes with the guards trailing behind me. "Stay right there let make the remaining walk on my own." They looked at each other before one of them nodded in agreement, when I saw that I had made some distance I sprinted and run as fast as my legs could take me but this dress was difficult to run in so I did the only rational thing, I tore the dress then I took to my heels I did not know where I was going but if it was away from them I'd be glad.Night came and I needed to find a place to stay for the night and luckily, I found a cave but when I entered a camp fire was already lit without thinking I sat down to warm myself.
ARTHUR'S POV
When I was told I would be getting married, to be honest I wasn't surprised I was sure she was just like the other women and in the end she would turn out as a mistress just like them that is why I didn't bother going for the wedding as always and as always there were complaints of how disrespectful that was but I didn't bother to listen and I knew she would be coming to the palace today so I left the palace and went into the woods for some air it was getting dark and I knew she would have arrived by now and would be waiting for the consummation but that was the least I could think of I set up a camp fire in my usual cave and went fishing. I caught a lot of fish but when I returned I sensed something off so I took out my dagger as I tiptoed into the cave and there lying on the cold floor was a lady curled and shivering on the ground I placed my dagger back in place and went to cover her up and I saw the hem of her clothes torn it could be seen that it was forcefully torn, was she assaulted, but there were no bruises on her arms or legs and the dress she was wearing looked really expensive like one that a pauperpopper could not afford I went to my bag to take out a cloth to cover her but when I turned she was getting up, she rubbed her eyes in a childish way and I had a feeling I had never felt before but it felt good she stopped when she sensed my presence in the cave she widened her eyes and took a protective stance while getting up she eyed me. "I am sorry if I scared you but you seemed cold and I wanted to cove you with a cloth." I said trying to ease the awkwardness she relaxed a bit and nodded her head. "Thank you, I'm Selene Winters, and it is very nice to meet you." She replied, that name I have heard of it before Winters, Selene Winters my supposed wife. "You know it's said to be rude not to introduce yourself after a lady has provided her identity." She said again pulling me out of my train of thoughts"Well, I'm deeply sorry my lady, I'm Arthur. What happened to you, if may ask", "I was being sent torun away from my husband who didn't even bother to show up for the wedding and I run", she deadpanned. "Aren't you going to say anything", She said after a moment of silence, "anything like what", she smiled, " anything like, how could you run away from your husbandwedding women, aren't supposed to so daring and violent and all that, aren't you curious," "I would be lying if I said I wasn't curious but I respect your privacy." Her eyes roomed about and landed on the fish I had caught, "ah you should be starving by now don't worry I caught some fish we can roost them and eat lucky for you I caught a lot of them today," I said as I picked up the basket of fish soon enough the fish was ready and we started to eat. "You really know how to cook, you know you are the first man I have met that can actually cook and I am glad I met you because I am terrible at cooking." We talked for long and I realized that she was very interesting but she seemed quite uncomfortable. "Are you okay you seem uncomfortable" I asked, "yeah I have not taken my bath yet so I feel quite uneasy." "There is a stream right behind the cave you can take a shower over there." I said as I continued to eat my fish but she didn't seem to get up, "Didn't you say you wanted to take your bath." "It's very late and it's dark what if a creature attacks me." "Would you like me to follow you." when I said that I saw the blood rising to her cheeks, she was blushing and it was cute to see her like that. "I…. I… don't worry I will just sleep like that" but when she lay down, I could see she was very uncomfortable. "You don't have to worry about me peeking I will just stand at a far but safe distance." she seemed to be contemplating then she nodded, the night was beautiful the full moonmon shining bright with stars decorating the sky when we got to the stream it was even more beautiful the moonlight reflected in the water making it to glitter fireflies flew about it was beautiful absolutely breathtaking I glanced at the lady by my side and my breath got caught in my throat I could now see her face properly she had skin as white as snow her lips were small and red as cherries the moonlight did justice to her complexion as it glowed in the night sky. And when she glanced at me with that smile my heart skipped a beat. "The night is really beautiful isn't it." she asked but the only answer I could give was a hum because I was afraid that if I opened my, mouth I would say something very stupid. "I should start taking my bath then.""Oh yes of course I will stand behind that tree okay." she nodded.
SELENE'S POV
As he walked away I began to undress but when I place my leg in the water I let out a yelp, "Is there a problem, do you need help with anything" he asked, "the water is freezing cold", I yelled back, "but don't worry I'll manage", I said and without looking where I was going I tripped and fell into the stream as the current pulled me felt a hand pull me out of the water, it was him, Arthur and he was staring at me then realization dawned on me that I was standing there before him in nothing but my, under garment I tried covering myself but he held my hand, "You are beautiful", he leaned in closer to me, "and you smell amazing" no man has ever been that close to me before and my brain was yelling at me that this was wrong but my body went numb and every inch of me wanted him to touch me I wanted to know if his lips where as soft as they looked, "you should stop me", he looked me in the eyes those turbulent blue eyes will definitely be the death of me I got lost in them and I did the unthinkable I leaned in and kissed him and it felt good this was my first kiss I was enjoying it but then I remembered I was married and pulled away, "I am sorry this is wrong everything about this is wrong", I said trying to free myself from his hold but it got even tighter "why is this wrong I know you feel the same way I do", "I am married I can't do this to my husband", I snapped back unexpectedly he looked shocked and so I continued "I know I run away from my marriage and he did not even bother to show up, but even so I am still married to him and I just can't betray him","So, you are just going to go back to him after everything he did", he said and I hated the look in his eyes. I had only known him for a few hours and yet I felt as though I had known him for ages I felt great love and passion in his kiss, he looks at me as though I was the only one he sees and…, "answer me", he pressed, "I don't know if I will go back or not but one thing I know is that I am married to him and just can't betray him like that", he raked his hand through is perfect hair, "I am sorry", that was all I could say then I left the water and went back to the cave he came in not quite long and gave me his clothes to wear and then he went outside he came back into the cave when I was done dressing and it looked like he had changed his clothes as well I could not sleep for it was cold and the cold water even made it worse I think he noticed my discomfort, "you should come and lie down don't worry I will not touch you", I got up and lay by his side with my back facing him I heard him turning and I felt his hand on my waist I stiffened, "Arthur I…..", "let me warm you at least I promise not to do anything else", he cut me off and pulled me closer to him he was warm even though he was also drenched in the same water as myself the warmth was welcoming and I found myself snuggling against his hard chest soon I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the next morning he was gone there was nothing in the cave that showed he was ever here except his clothes that I was wearing, I decided to leave the cave before anyone saw but the moment I got out I saw them the palace guards I did not need to be told twice I took to my heels and run as fast as I could and they dashed behind me they were getting close and my heart was beating rapidly I didn't see where I was going when one of them just appeared in front of me he held my hand firmly as I tried to resist, wow look at you running away from your wedding and look you are wearing another man's dress after spending the night in the woods I bet he banged your senses out last night. He said as the others arrived near us they dragged me all the way to the gates and then I started to fell scared, I do not know who my husband is, what if he hits me or throws me in the dungeon there was nothing left for me to do I could not resist, it would be futile there were many people in the town there was no way I could escape, soon, I was set before a council with a throne in the middle it was empty, it seems the king was yet to arrive there were ladies dressed in very beautiful clothes they must be his wives or concubines I presume, every second I took there waiting the arrival of the king felt like my life was shorting, then the doors opened and when the king walked in my breath got stuck in my throat.Tears where threatening to pour down my face he, locked eyes with me and walked towards me, I couldn't look into those eyes the same eyes that captured my soul and my entire being, when he stretched his hands to pull a strand from my face I backed away and the murmurs erupted again, "How dare you refuse the king of touching you, you belong to him and you dared run from your own wedding and return in another man's clothes". Those words even though they hurt were not even near the hurt I was feeling as I stared in those eyes of his.
ARTHUR'S POV
I woke up really early trying to remember the events of yesterday, yet I did not need to think for long when she stirred in her sleep beside me, my hand was tightly wrapped around her waist and she looked ever so peaceful as she slept I brushed a few of her hair strand from her face and she mumbled in her sleep but I knew I had to get back, the palace would be in havoc by now, I packed my things, and with one last glance and the sleeping woman that took my breath away I left.When I got to the palace it was in absolute chaos with maids gossiping about the runaway bride and Albert my trusted steward came to me but before he could speak I cut him off, "I already know my bride has run away, go to the cave she is there, and take some guards with you, I am dire need of a bath", I went into my room for a quick shower the council had asked for a hearing even though I was exhausted I had to be present before I left my room Albert came to inform me that they had found her and she was another man's clothes I just nodded and headed out when the doors opened the only person I wanted to see was her and when I did I regretted it the look in her eyes were one of betrayal and hurt it seemed she must have been crying I went towards her but she wouldn't look at me and that broke me I tried to move a strand of hair from her face but she move away, and stared right into my eyes then a minister rebuked I didn't hear anything he said for my focused where on her eyes she hissed and took her eyes off mine and then I saw crimson red it was blood she was bleeding it seemed she had cut herself on the shoulder her dress was soaked in her blood, this meeting is adjourned I need to take care of my wife said as I took her arm firmly and left the room, I stopped and told Albert to send a maid to my room then I took her to my chambers, you know you are the first woman I have brought to my room besides my mother, she remained silent and just stared into the distance I took her arm and tried to take the fabric of her wound and she hissed, sorry I will be careful, yet she did not respond or even look at me, my lord you sent for me, run a bath for her highness, I turned to look at her againBut it seemed she did not want to talk so I continued dressing her wound, my lord the bath is ready, you may leave, when the doors clicked she turned to look at me for an explanation, I am sorry I know I should have told you my Identity but I couldn't tell you the truth after you told me you run away afterfrom the wedding, tell me would you have stayed there if I told you I was the same man you seemed to despise so much or that I was the man who did not attend the weeding, no I knew you wouldn't stay and it was dark you could have been hurt and I... you still don't get it do you, her voice was thick with hurt, yes knowing that you lied to me hurt me a lot but that is not the problem, you knew that I did not want to come to this place or remain married to the king l told you about my dreams and how it would be shattered if I came here or remained married to the king and yet you brought me right back here to this place, why, to save your image so you don't look like the man whose wife left him, she chuckled, or maybe you wanted to keep me here as your possession as an asset, right, that is not true and you know it, yes I made a mistake by bringing you here against your will but I knew how hard it was out there and I didn't want you going through that you were the first person I was able to speak with so freely and I think I was starting to like your company, so you brought me here regardless of what I felt just so you could be happy, you know there is a saying that if you really love someone then you must be willing to let that person go, I hope you understand, so you want to leave, tell me something would have stayed with me if I was still the person you thought I was if I was not royal, wasdid the connection we felt fake, tell me that kiss was it all a lie to you, I was wrong very wrong but tell me this do you love me Selene.
SELENE'S POV
That word love was I in love no I can't be in love yes I hated him for lying to me yet I liked his company, I wanted him to look me in the eyes like I was the only ne he could see I wanted him to hold me close like he did that night and I wanted him to kiss me like he did, was this love that I couldn't tell, I don't know if I am really in love or not and don't change the subject I was talking about how…. you look really cute when you are shy, he said as he moved in closer to me like he did that night and I felt my body tingle when he touched me just like the night before, Arthur don't be like this I…. are you sure you don't know how you fell about me; he asked his voice lased with something I couldn't decipher, was it lust, I could not tell for the heat emanating from his body clouded my senses, y. y. yes, I am sure but you can't just…. ARTHUR'S POV
