Here's the deal: as you've probably noticed, there haven't been any new chapters for a while.
The reason is, this fanfic is officially on hiatus.
Some of you might not know this (even though I've mentioned it a bunch of times), but yeah, this fic is a translation.
Or rather, a translation + a revised version where I adapted the cultural differences to make it flow better.
The original author has most likely dropped this fic.
I'm not just saying that out of nowhere.
I waited a long time and did some pretty deep digging. From what I understand (not 100% sure, and I don't wanna mislead anyone), the situation is this:
Even though people here love the fic, the Chinese readers just weren't feeling it.
From what I saw, they threw out a bunch of bs reasons like the planned plot being bad etc. But the real issue (from what I gathered) is this:
The theme of being useful to the US gov, and the MC not "feeling" Chinese enough despite his past life, etc.
In short, Lynn's friendship with Johnny and the story being totally different from their usual cultural stuff left a bad taste in their mouths.
(Seriously, big respect to the author. He proved once again that being a good author has nothing to do with nationality.)
So yeah, looks like it just didn't vibe with them culturally.
Personally, I think that's pretty ridiculous, ngl.
But looking at it from their POV, I guess it's kinda like us reading novels from a totally different culture.
You guys might remember I wrote my own absurd parody side story poking fun at this, and even that got some backlash.
So if I had just uploaded the raw fic here as is, probably no one would've read it.
Tbh, there are tons of xianxia, translations, and Chinese fics on this site with good stats. So I don't wanna say for sure, lol.
Bottom line, that's the situation folks, and there probably won't be a new chapter.
Honestly, I had high hopes for the story. The author promised some good stuff regarding the harem, the main love interest was Lady Death, and it was gonna be a really fun read. But sadly, looks like the adventure ends here.
From now on, I'm gonna think twice and check things way more carefully before picking up a fic to translate.
Ugh, I know, this really sucks… Anyway, once I wrap up my current projects, I promise I've got a new fic coming that's currently in the drafts.
It's a Multiverse fic (DC, Marvel, movie universes included) with a total scumbag MC with zero morals, tons of gore, and tons of comedy.
It's gonna cover stuff like genocide, murder, betrayal, gore... topics most authors don't have the balls to touch.
