Edwin trained alone in a high-tech, world-class gym—mirrors on every wall, machines humming like beasts. His long hair clung to his sweat-soaked back. The bags under his eyes told the truth: he was aging. rapidly. Unevenly. But still dangerous.
A slave entered, head bowed. "Master, a message from the Supreme."
Edwin didn't stop. "What's he say?"
"He requests your presence. Urgently."
Edwin dropped the weights. "Fine. I'll shower. Have the car ready."
"Yes, master." The slave vanished.
Steam filled the marble shower. Edwin stood under it, silent. As he dressed black suit, silver cufflinks his mind wandered.
What could Lucifer want now?
It was true Lucifer had taken Edwin under his wing personally. That alone made the other demons seethe with envy. Edwin sat high in the hierarchy now. One of the strongest in the legion. Untouchable. Fears.
I can do what I want, he thought. No demon dares cross me. But Lucifer… he's different. He's the strongest. And if he's calling me, it's serious.
Edwin adjusted his tie, stepped into the hallway, and headed for the car.
