Her gaze seemed to drift in our direction, and I found myself shifting nervously in my seat. She had come here searching for a mate, while I sat disguised as a man. If she grew suspicious about my true identity, the consequences would be catastrophic.
Mariyah pivoted toward Alpha Mateo, her smile radiating confidence. "My father has granted me permission to spend time among the Alphas here and seek out a suitable mate, given that no trials are scheduled. I trust this won't be an issue."
Alpha Mateo rose from his library chair with the fluid grace of a predator who had grown weary of toying with its prey. Without a backward glance, his coat billowed behind him as his cigarette remained clamped between his lips. His boots struck the marble floor with deliberate echoes as he strode toward the exit, already halfway there when his gruff voice carried across the room.
