Evelin's POV
I froze for a second. The guard beside me rushed forward, helping Zayden back to his feet.
I waved the guard off, then faced Zayden. "Say what you need to say. There's no need for all that kneeling."
A bitter laugh escaped Zayden's lips. 'Just say it?' he thought. 'But when I tried speaking up before, nobody bothered listening.
'They all figured I was spouting nonsense.
'Even when I pleaded with them to investigate the real story, nobody gave a damn. They just kicked me out.
'Dad was gone. Dead men don't get to prove their innocence.
'But I knew they'd wronged my father.'
Zayden's voice cracked. "Back then, everyone pinned that fire on my dad. Said it happened because he was smoking and lost control. But my dad swore to me he'd given up cigarettes, and he never broke his promises. There's absolutely no way he caused that fire!"
