He wanted to say, You calculated that pretty fast, but instead he explained,
"I really was planning to tell you."
Mei snapped out of her frozen state and forced a smile.
"No problem, no problem! Great! Have fun back home!"
She turned around to run out but immediately kicked the edge of the door.
"Ow!"
Otis dropped the clothes in his hands and rushed after her.
"Mei?"
But she had already closed her door and shouted back,
"I'm going to sleep now!"
Otis checked his phone.
It was only eight.
He had actually wanted to bring this up earlier tell her he'd be gone for several days but for some reason, it was difficult to say out loud.
In her dark room, Mei hugged her pillow, looking deflated.
Suddenly her chest felt empty, hollow.
She felt depressed… but she didn't know why.
It was normal for Otis to go home.
It's not like they planned a trip together.
But… Otis was leaving.
And he was leaving for seven whole days?!
Meaning that for all seven days, she would be alone?
