Chapter 54 - Chapter 54:

I never expected they would think I tried to commit suicide…

So Captian came after me not because he wanted to send me abroad, but because he thought I was trying to end my life.

But the expression he wore earlier was truly terrifying, it didn't look like someone trying to stop a suicide; it looked more like someone about to kill.

That misunderstanding was what caused the whole commotion.

I covered my mouth and let out a tiny laugh.

Captian lowered his eyes.

"You still have the nerve to laugh?"

"Chief Anderson, please believe me, I really had no intention of killing myself. You don't need to tie me up… and please don't cut off my hands or my legs, okay?"

I tugged gently at his sleeve, suddenly slipping into a soft, pleading tone.

I probably looked exactly like a small cat rubbing against its owner, my voice soft and sweet enough to melt someone's heart.

Captian frowned, shaken for a moment, but he still looked at me with a probing gaze.

I pursed my lips.

"It was really just an accident earlier. You're the one who scared me! Your face was so dark, you said you were coming to stop me, but you looked like you came to kill someone!"

Captian's lips twitched.

"You dare blame me?"

I grabbed his wrist and smiled up at him.

"I don't dare, I don't dare. I was just really scared. I was afraid you would throw me away send me abroad to fend for myself… or directly get rid of me."

The more I said, the more his expression twisted.

When did he ever say any of that?

Ronan, sitting nearby, broke out in a cold sweat.

Truly, sister-in-law's imagination was unmatched abroad? disposed of?

How did she even come up with these things?!

I blinked my eyes at him pitifully.

"I was just scared and ran out to get some fresh air. I didn't know it would turn into such a misunderstanding…"

My eyes watered, making me look like a frightened little rabbit.

He stared at me for a long moment before finally looking away, asking hesitantly,

"Why would you even think that way?"

I lowered my gaze as a tear slipped down my lashes.

"Didn't you ask for my ID card and household registration? With those you could make me a passport… and with a passport you can send someone abroad. And after the thing on Facebook, I thought… you would abandon me."

Captian leaned down and pressed a light kiss to my lips.

"Who said I'd throw you away, hm?"

My lips trembled.

"No one… I just thought so…"

"You're not allowed to think that," he said firmly.

"Oh…"

I answered weakly.

My body was still trembling, partly from the cold, mostly from fear.

Feeling the shaking, Captian said,

"We're going back to the villa."

Ronan stepped on the gas, and the car sped down the road.

Later, I stared at the marriage certificate in my hands, stunned.

"Chief Anderson… what is this supposed to mean?"

Why was he suddenly showing me a marriage certificate?

And whose was it?

Don't tell me it was his?

My stomach twisted with dread.

Captian arched a brow, signaling me to open it myself.

With trembling fingers, I unfolded it, and when my eyes landed on the names and photos everything inside me went silent.

My head buzzed.

No way.

Absolutely no way.

But there it was my photo from my ID, and Captian's photo similarly taken and matched with mine, a bright red background behind us.

This had to be a joke.

"Chief Anderson, this is…?"

I clutched my chest, stammering.

His eyes were sharp, as if he could see straight through me.

"A legal marriage certificate," he said.

I froze again.

So that meant… we were legally married?

What kind of absurdity was this?

This didn't fix anything!

"But… but I never signed it!" I protested.

Captian narrowed his eyes with a mocking smile.

"I have my ways."

My mind immediately conjured an image of Captian storming into the Civil Affairs Bureau with a gun, making all the staff sign the papers.

Just imagining it made my spine turn cold.

"Why did you suddenly get a marriage certificate?" My voice shook.

I felt completely blindsided.

Without answering, he simply raised his phone, snapped a picture, and posted it to Facebook.

Captian V: Photo. Photo.

Watching him move so decisively, something inside my head exploded.

And then it hit me, he was doing this to respond to the scandal online.

Of all the things he could have done public statements, clarifications, evidence, he chose the fastest and strongest method.

No explanation could compete with two marriage certificates.

He had just slammed the entire internet into silence.

He didn't just refute the rumors, he also declared to the world that I was his woman.

His wife.

Sugar baby? Impossible.

Anyone insulting me now would be begging for death.

All in one move, he shut everyone up, it was the most brutally effective solution.

I stared at his side profile, and I couldn't deny it, I was moved.

I'd thought he would use some heavy-handed method to shut everyone up.

I didn't expect this.

Marriage wasn't a game.

With his background, he could easily marry someone prestigious, someone who would benefit him.

Yet he chose to marry a countryside girl like me, who had absolutely nothing to offer.

"Chief Anderson… is this really okay?" I whispered, the red booklet burning my eyes.

Captian leaned in and kissed me again.

Unlike the soft kiss earlier, this one was wild, hungry, devouring me until I was dizzy and weak.

Only then did he release me.

"What do you think?" he murmured darkly.

His gaze made my whole body tingle.

I looked away shyly.

"I don't know…"

He laughed softly, unreadable.

I curled into his chest, too overwhelmed to ask anything more.

He slid a hand around my waist.

Our clothes were soaked and clinging uncomfortably to our skin.

He frowned and told Ronan,

"Drive faster."

Ronan nodded and floored the gas, the car shot forward like a rocket.

"Ah...!"

Startled, I clung to Captian's sleeve and refused to let go.
