Chapter 2 - “The Rain That Stole Her Face”

Diana—yes, the same Mrs. Diana Elordi who is Jacob's mother—pushed open Jacob's bedroom curtains. If he wouldn't wake up on his own, at least the sunlight might force him to.

Diana: "Wake up, Jacob. This is the first time you've overslept. I want to know why. I can't believe my serious, disciplined Jacob suddenly changed like this. What happened to you?"

Jacob: "It's nothing… I just couldn't sleep last night."

Diana grabbed Jacob's collar and frowned.

Diana: "Don't lie. You're still wearing the same clothes from last night."

Jacob: "Come on, Mom… it's nothing."

Diana: "Did you meet someone? Tell me the truth."

Jacob: "No. I had a meeting last night, came back, and went straight to sleep."

Diana: "Come downstairs. Breakfast is ready. I'll wait for you."

Diana walked out of the room.

Jacob picked out clothes for a shower, and as the water fell over him, he couldn't stop thinking about the girl he saw last night.

Downstairs, Diana was giving instructions.

Diana: "Jacob doesn't like sweets. Take this away."

Maid: "Alright."

Jacob finally came downstairs.

Jacob: "Good morning, Mom."

Diana: "Good afternoon, Jacob."

Jacob: "Oh… sorry, Mom."

Diana: "Come. Let's eat."

They both began eating quietly.

Diana: "How was your meeting?"

Jacob: "Same as always."

Diana: "Where exactly did you go?"

Jacob: "Aman, New York."

Diana: "Yes, Owen told me that."

Jacob: "Hmm."

Diana: "Here, have a sandwich."

Jacob: "When did you arrive home?"

Diana: "I came early in the morning. But looking at you, it feels like you have some special news for me today."

Jacob: "What news?"

Diana: "Are you in a relationship with someone?"

Jacob immediately stood up.

Jacob: "I'm done. I should leave for the office."

Diana: "How long will you keep running from these questions?"

Jacob: "I don't have time for unnecessary things, Mom. I'm leaving."

Diana: "It's Sunday. Now answer me."

Jacob: "Please, Mom… talk about something pleasant."

Diana: "Enough, Jacob. Next year you'll turn twenty-eight, and before you do, I want to see you married. If that doesn't happen, I swear I'll leave both you and your father forever."

Furious, Diana grabbed her things and headed for the door.

Diana: "Goodbye.".

The next morning, Jacob got ready and stepped out.

Jacob: "Drive, start the car. We need to leave quickly."

Inside the car, Jacob made a call.

Jacob (on call): "Sorry, Mr. Michel. You'll have to come early today."

Michel: "what happened son, what's the rush?"

Jacob: "Nothing… Mom is upset with me. I just need some time to make things right with her."

Michel: "I understand, son."

Jacob hung up the phone.

Just then, the car suddenly stopped.

Jacob: "What happened?"

Driver: "I'm not sure, sir. Maybe because of the weather."

Jacob: "Alright, no problem. Fix it. I'll wait outside."

Jacob stepped out of the car.

He realized they had stopped near a school where several girls were playing outside.

Suddenly, it started raining.

All the girls ran back inside the school building—except one.

One girl came out into the rain, jumping and spinning like a free bird.

Jacob couldn't take his eyes off her.

Instantly, he remembered the girl from Aman, New York—.

Driver: "Sir, it's done."

Jacob: "Yeah… just a minute."

Jacob looked again, but the rain had grown heavier.

Everything blurred, and he couldn't see her face clearly anymore.
