Chapter 1 - The Death Trials

[This Chapter is a prologue, but i recommend reading it. It is about an important part of the story]

What is beyond Death?

Many scientists, philosophers, medical examiners, neuroscientists, morticians have wondered that life old question.

A philosopher by the name of Burgess, wanted to test his theory on "The Death Trial".

The theory is, after death you will be put through trials called: The Death Trials. When you succeed you'll get another shot at life. You can either pick a new life or continue your old one.

This theory was vague and Burgess had no proof of its existence.

One day...

Burgess went on a walk to the grocery store, around the corner from where he lived. When he got to the front of the store, he felt an uneasy feeling in his stomach; one of death. He walked through the doors of the store and saw no-one behind the counter. Burgess thought nothing of it, maybe they went to the backroom of the store. He grabs a packet of his favorite chips and a can of Blaze energy to wash it all down. Burgess walked to the counter, where he was ready to pay for the snacks. He wore a white lab coat like he was some scientist or something. He believed he was. Funny, because he only majored in philosophy. He heard a rustling sound coming from the backroom.

"Hello! I'm ready to pay." he said eager to leave.

The door to the backroom of the store was open. Burgess thought maybe there is an emergency. The store clerk was never away from the counter for that long. He thought maybe their having a seizure, because the clerk had them often. Burgess decided to go towards the metal door of the backroom. Before he got closer to the room, the feeling of unease was becoming excruciating.

"Hello, I'm coming in. Yell if your alive." he said, actually concerned.

Burgess first peeked his head in.

"Oh my G**!!!!!"

Blood painted the whole room. But that was the least of his concerns. There was a figure in the shadow of the room, one that doesn't seem threatening at first. The figure wore a super suit, ones heroes wear. In a flash, nothing remained of Burgess. His blood splatted all around the room. Burgess' blood was indistinguishable from the blood that already painting the walls.

Before Burgess could prove his theory, he died.

But that is not the END of his story.

Another customer heard screaming coming from the backroom of the store, and a sudden silence. The customer decided to call CHAD (Civilian Help and Distress), it was a number you can dial, and Heroes would arrive immediately. Suspiciously, Civilians didn't have to tell them their current location, they just knew where you were. A Hero arrived at the scene. It was gruesome, extremely gory. They looked around the backroom no bodies were found, only blood proved what had happened. Magnus-SS Rank Hero, used his trace ability to find the owners of the blood. It was weird, because there was no blood outside of the room that could lead to the location of a body or two. Other heroes have arrived -- Angus, Lifespawn, Dawnbreaker and Noractic.

The next morning...

Burgess woke up, his eyes kind of groggy like he has woken up from a long nap. He felt a homely warmth. As he expected he was in his bed. It was just another morning for him. His body was covered with scales. He walked to the kitchen with his satin gown. Poured water into the jug of the coffee machine, then he took freshly ground coffee beans and threw a perfectly measured amount in the machine. He took his favorite coffee cup the one with a smiley face on it. He thought to himself, "I got to live another day". He sat at the living room table sipping the first shot of coffee for the day. And he started writing.

"The Death Trial is real, I experienced it. Two painful years in there was just a 12 hours on Earth. I know that because I was timing myself. Before leaving to go to the store I started the stop watch. This morning when I woke up I gained the powers I was promised by the council, I was fully reptilian now. I checked my watch, it was 12 hours 35 minutes. It took me at least 35 minutes to wake-up fully. My theory of The Death Trials is correct..."

He was excited to tell the world about it. But then his head felt heavy, heavier then usual. His nose started bleeding. Blood dripping on his journal where he occasionally wrote about the Trials. Before he could get another sip of coffee.

His head exploded.

The first rule of the Death Trial is:

"No mention of the Trials in the real world , written or spoken."

There is still mysteries about the Death Trial.

Who gets chosen. And why?

We'll find out soon enough.
