Chapter 5 - (ch5) Sigil practice

The sun shown over a clearing within the forest, the grass swaying gently in the morning breeze. In a bush, Mohg crouched in wait, expecting something to appear soon.

From across the clearing, a boar had appeared. It had brown matted fur, small beady eyes, and a stench that said it hadn't bathed in a while. It's snout was pressed firmly to the ground, sniffing for its next meal.

"Right on time. Now to get started." Mohg whispered to himself. He has been tracking this specifics boar for one singular purpose: practice.

"Ok, the first step was to visualize what the sigil would look like." The image of a crimson trident entwined with thorns appeared in Mohg's mind's eye. Grasping the image tight, Mohg then created a puncture wound on his palm.

'Next was to give it physical form.' With a methodical motion, Mohg created a rudimentary version of his vision.

"Now… for the…key word. Hemolonche!"

The sigil flashed red before a spear made of blood launched from its center. The projectile whistled through the air as it approached the boar, who had its head raised in alarm. Yet before impact, the spear lost its shape, with the blood merely splashing the boar's head.

With a squel, the boar bolted into the underbrush.

"Well, at least it's something.." Mohg sighed at the partial success, which was suprising since this was the first time ever trying. His hand rose before he clenched his hand into a fist.

Fwooosh!

The bush that the boar fled into erupted in flames as an agonized cry rang out, with a soft thud following not long after. Mohg made his way over, and pulled away some burnt wood to admire his handiwork.

The smell of cooked pork wafted in the air as what remained was a still smoking carcass, the head blown to charcoal bits from a volatile reaction. Though the sigil wasn't perfect, it still gave Mohg a good meal.

While the future lord of blood enjoyed his meal, a meeting was being held by the Musutafu Police department (or MPD).

The chief of police, Kenji Tsuragamae, who had a beagle's head and a no funny business demanor, placed the latest file under the projector lens. "Alright, settle in, it's gonna be a long night, woof. It's already been over 4 days since we got this case, so we need to hurry if we still want to help."

The image shifted to show a middle aged couple. The woman, a blonde with golden eyes, was looking at the camera as the man was grinning by her side. If Mohg were here, he would have immediately recognized the man as the drunk that tried stabbing him.

"This is the Vilethorn couple, Marika Gorudooda and James Vilethorn. The main focus, however, is their kid, Mohgwyn Vilethorn." The image flipped to a young boy with raven black hair and a freckled face- a normal kid with fun on his mind.

"The kid was about three years old in this image. However his looks took a ruff turn when his quirk came in." The image changed again. The officers gasped at the sight of a creature covered in twisting horns, with obsidian skin and jagged fangs.

The chief continued once the other officers had regained their wits. "Woof, yes this is the most recent photo of the kid. His quirk was labeled blood flame as a result of the incident at the Terakoya preschool. Due to sudden awakening, Mohgwyn had grown from his previous 97 cm to a staggering 183 cm, almost doubling in height. The sudden growth of horns not long after caused drops of blood to leak that promptly ignited with contact to the air. Young Mohgwyn was rushed to the ER, later discharged a week later."

"And now, both the boy and his father have gone missing. We suspect the father had taken the boy with bad intentions, as Mrs. Gorudooda had reported finding a bloodied bat and no signs of breaking or entering."

Chief Kenji paused as he saw the grim faces of his officers. Captain Magyu, an officer with an outstanding rescue record due to his quirk, scent finder, rose from his seat. "I volunteer to take this case chief! I promise that vile abuser will pay for his crimes!"

"Yeah, let's get them chief!"

"Sit down fool, do you even know where to look?"

"Uh…"

"Enough!" The officers quieted down as their chief glared at them. " Captain Magyu, I'll throw you a bone and put you on the case. You'll rendezvous with the underground hero eraser head at 21:00 o'clock sharp. Am I clear?"

"Yes chief!"

"Good, now everyone, back to work, ruff!"
