Chapter 4 - Innocence you’d like to ruin

- MICAH -

I stare out the car window, admiring the drive through into the pack borders. This pack is way smaller than ours. It also seems less durable based on the view so far so I cannot understand this arrangement. What benefit does such an alliance grant us?

I cannot fathom it, but father wishes for it to take place and it is my duty as the alpha to uphold it.

The weight of a body hangs over my back. Aidan, the youngest among us triplets, jumps on me, circling his arm over my chest. "What do you think? Anticipating meeting her?"

He sounds cheerful. He's way too excited for his own good.

"I do not specifically hold any feelings towards this." I say to him. A punch on my shoulder retracts my attention to him, with a raised brow.

"Don't be all stoic, brother." He words.

"You're only excited because you get to meet your childhood crush, Aidan." Jared, who has been resting against the car door at the other side, says. His first words since the journey began. He's the second oldest among us three.

I smirk. "All it took was one day for his feelings to fetter, quite embarrassing if you ask me."

Aidan's form withdraws from mine. "When tonight comes and the mate bond has been established, you both will be as lovesick as I am. Then I will torment you."

I chuckle. Falling for a girl without a mate bond has always been stupid to me, especially when the knowledge of your actual mate is unknown. What happens when the time reaches and your presumed lover is not your destined mate? The heart break is not worth it. I'd rather have fun the old-fashioned way than tether to unwanted feelings. That is a decent way of referring to sex.

Jared sighs. I spare him a gaze. "Take care of that before making an appearance to our supposed mate. If everything goes as we plan, two packs will be made one tonight." I say, referring to his roughened look. He's been sleeping the entire time. Among us three, Jared happens to be the laziest. Easy going with a levelled temper. I think that is the perfect balance considering Aidan is quite rough and a hot head. And me? I don't know how to describe myself. I would say magnificent but that will be too narcissistic.

"Sure, Alpha." Jared teases with a yawn. I almost want to smack him across the shoulder. We're all alphas of the SilverCrest pack.

I pinch the bridge of my nose in distress. "What did I do for the heavens to make me stuck with you two?" My tone reeks of sarcasm.

"You wouldn't last a day without us, brother. We're the spice to your bland meal." Aidan comments.

I make a face. "You wish."

Jared and Aidan chorus a laughter. This makes me turn away from them. The only beings with the audacity of making me this agitated are my brothers.

"We're nearing the alpha's quarters." Aidan sounds way too giddy for my liking.

"Behave." I say. Until everything makes sense to me, I won't give into this arrangement so easily.

"There she is! Our mate." Aidan leans forward, staring out the windscreen, clearly dismissing my warning. I let out a sigh, it's hopeless trying to get him to reason when he's like this.

"You don't know that." Jared concludes. "The system changes every year." He yawns, straightening his hair.

Aidan doesn't seem to be interested in what Jared said. "She will be. I can feel it in my-"

"Dick." I complete his sentence. He's clearly thinking with his cock.

The car comes to a halt. Our chauffeur gets down from the driver's seat before opening the door for us. Both doors are opened, one of our men at each side. I step out, lacing my eyes around the environment. My jaw is rigid. Not bad.

"Alpha Micah, it's a pleasure to have you join us." Lady Esther says, walking before me. I lower my gaze to the woman. I am not entirely pleased being welcomed by the retired alpha's wife.

"Of course, the pleasure is surely yours." I mouth. My beta comes to my side. He greets the Luna before addressing me. Took him long enough. The vehicle my brothers and I were in was accompanied by several others, each holding our betas and strongest warriors. While none of us believed there would be any inconvenience during the journey, we found it mandatory to not travel alone. But now that I have arrived at our destination, I am sure all the guards in this place cannot take me and my brothers and survive. There will be fatalities and definitely not on our side.

I brush past the luna, walking to meet my brothers. Alpha Canaan is present with his sister by his side. Other pack members are with them. Is this a welcoming or some family gathering? I am not impressed.

Canaan makes his way to us. "Please, let us take you to our finest establishment tailored just for you. You must be weary due to the distance."

"That will be nice." Aidan answers in my stead. I feel his elbow nudge my arm. 'Be nice' he communicates through our mind link.

'I am far from impressed.' I say to him, following Canaan and his pack members.

'These people are showing hospitality. It is only fair to return the favour.' Aidan does have a point.

'The only reason for this hospitality is the benefit they gain from us.' There is just something about this place that displeases me. I wonder why father made a deal with the previous Alpha, surely friendship cannot be the only foundation of an alliance this unbeneficial to us.

'You two should stop ranting in my head or I will cut you off.' Jared warns. I grin.

Audrey, Canaan's sister turns back slightly to face us. Her lips curl to the side and I notice her cheeks turn rosy. She immediately blinks after making eye contact with me then faces forward again.

'Now that surely is an innocence you'd like to ruin, Aidan.'

I hear Jared snarl. Okay, I'll stop.
