The nobles gasped so hard I thought someone might choke.

A countess fainted. A duke dropped his goblet. One baron actually whispered, "By the gods…is that really her? I thought she left…" like he'd just seen one walk in uninvited.

Henry's real face drew another wave of shock—sharp eyes, composed stance, warrior's aura snapping into place. Not a "new mage." Not inexperienced. A weapon wrapped in patience.

"Oh?" I said lightly, tilting my head. "You look surprised."

Inside my pouch, Chubby scoffed.

Hmph. Took them long enough, his voice echoed lazily in my mind.

I smiled wider.
