The silence in the office had become almost tangible, heavy as an invisible chain. The fire crackled in the fireplace, casting reddish flashes over the hardened faces of the three men. The air smelled of spilled wine, old wood, and contained rage.

Eliza remained standing, rigid, fingers trembling at her sides. Adrenaline still coursed through her veins, though her strength had already abandoned her. Damian observed her a few seconds longer, conflict marking his features. Then he closed his eyes and spoke through the mental link he shared with his Beta.

—Take her away. Now.

Caleb didn't waste a moment. He entered with the stealth of someone who had been waiting for the order, a glass in his hand. The amber liquid swirled under the firelight, reflecting golden glints on the stone floor.

Eliza looked at him confused, lips parted.

—What is that?

Damian held her gaze for barely a second before looking away.
