Chapter 12 - Relics.

"SH****T!" a voice yelled as a figure took a sharp right running past a few students. "Crap, how could I have been this late?!"

Riven pulled out his phone to check the time, It was 7:05. A.M., usually a normal student won't fret over something like this but Riven wasn't the type to be late, he was used to waking up extremely early, but—

Ever since that day he met with our beloved President, he's been kind of off when it comes to his prefect lifestyle.

"Come on, Come on!" Riven reached his classroom door, panting heavily from his sprint. "I seriously need to be on my A-game next time."

He opened the door to an empty classroom, seeing this he signed with relief. "First person in class, nothing's better than that."

He stepped in and took a seat, glancing back at Lucian's seat, he growled, though he couldn't control it. "If only that damned brat had gotten a different class."

"Umm…sorry but...could you not growl in class…it's a little terrifying." A voice came out from behind Riven.

He turned to see a girl wearing the school uniform, aside the trousers being a skirt. She had incredibly long hair cream-looking hair, and emerald eyes.

Looking at her, Riven was sure this must be the smallest person he's seen so far.

Oh. I'm sorry." Riven apologized. "It's just I really hate guys like that…By the way, I haven't seen you in this class, are you new?"

"N-No. I was actually present when you arrived but I wasn't sure of how to approach you for a while." The girl replied as she fidgeted slightly with her fingers.

Riven smiled at her, it was obvious she was a shy type and he didn't want to scare her either. "I see, so what's your name?"

The girl blinked as she flinched slightly "R-Ru-Runa…Runa Caelum."

"Well nice to meet you Runa, I'm Riven." He said flashing a big grin on his face. "Nice name by the way."

The other's face flashed red as she hid her face behind her hands. "T-Thanks! I-It was nice to meet you to Riven!"

Riven brain blanked for a moment. It wasn't exactly the first time a girl had blushed in front of him but for some strange reason he also felt a surge of heat crawl up his neck.

"N-No problem…" he muttered, scratching the back of his head. "She's looks kinds cute…" he thought aloud.

"Huh?!"

It was at that moment that the wolf had realized he had made the biggest and stupidest mistake of his life, which will haunt him for entire life.

"I-I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT! Well you are kinda cute but…I—Uhh—IT JUST CAME OUT!" the boy blurted, his mind trying so desperately to think of any other words and his heart pounding against his chest.

His face was already red, and so was the girl's.

"I…I…" Runa wanted to speak but was also at a loss of words.

As if it couldn't be more appropriate, the door swung open and two familiar faces came in.

"See. We're still early, there was no reason to be in a damn hurry." Lucian complained as he walking in arms dangling, with Cyrus in tow.

"You wouldn't be complaining if you'd just go to bed early instead of—"

Cyrus cut himself the moment they saw the other two, who's faces where still slightly red.

"Were you two about kiss or something?" Lucian narrowed his eyes at them.

Runa's voice started to pitch. "N-No we weren't…W-We were talking and…" her face flared red and she covered her face with strands of her hair. "We didn't do anything like that!"

Cyrus raised a brow. "That's debatable…"

"SHUT THE HELL UP GLASSES!" Riven yelled at the imp who quickly raised both hands in surrender.

"I was just saying." He added, shrugging.

"I wouldn't be so sure…" Lucian said, grinning wickedly, "After all these mangy mutt have a tendency to get a bit 'wild'…you never know maybe he was…"

"SHUT THE F*CK UP!!" Riven yelled again, hurling a textbook at the other as it landed squarely on his nose.

"YOU SH*TTY BRAT! I'LL F*CKING KILL YOU!" Lucian roared as he wiped his bloody nose cracked his knuckles, but Cyrus intercepted him. "Outta the way lackey."

"I know you're mad but would it be wise fight over something so irrelevant." Cyrus advised.

Lucian sighed. "Fine, whatever." He said as he brushed his hair back, walked past Riven, as they exchanged glare, to his seat.

Just then, Azrael and Harumi came in through the back door, they didn't even need to be told what went on, the tension lingered in the air like a bitter aftertaste in one's mouth.

"Even after all the warnings you're still picking fight with that guy? If I were you, I'd stop doing that." Azrael cautioned as he took his seat in front of Riven.

"Sorry, but I don't see that happening anytime soon."Riven said with a frown, as the other signed.

"Okay if you said so." The ghost shrugged.

"Okay now that you're all settled, let's begin class." Everyone turned to see Kairo standing in the front of the class, leaning on the edge of his desk, arms crossed. It seemed as if he had been standing there the entire time, though everyone was sure he hadn't been a while ago.

When did he get here? Did anyone see him?

Riven looked at the others and the shocked expressions on their faces said that they were all thinking the same thing.

However the man had seemed less concerned about what the others thought of his sudden entry.

"Today I'll be informing you about the History of Hunters." He said

The entire classed tensed up a little, this wasn't the first time they heard the word but they didn't expect to be taught about them.

"First of, Hunters emerged around the Medieval times. They've been hunting us Mythics, hence, starting a war known as The Purge."

Kairo paused, taking a look around the room to see if the others were listening.

"At first, Mythics were the dominators; we had more skill and ways to fight their conventional method but, over time Hunters started using…new weapons."

"New weapons?" Azrael echoed, his voiced was more concerned than curious.

"Yes. Hunter's started to use objects called Relics..."Kairo replied calmly. "Ever since then, they've managed to fight on even ground with us.

"Soon, Hunters got not only better but stronger, forcing us Mythics to hide amongst humans but they still hunted us down till date.

"As for Relics, they are extremely dangerous when in the hands of a Hunter."

Riven gulped as he recalled that night, was that gun the Hunter used on him a Relic?

"They can be any type of object; weapons or even in-animate things as well. Some of these objects can be weaponized for combat, while most grant their users access to special abilities."

Hearing this, the young wolf felt a tingle down his spine as he looked down at the golden necklace he was willed.

Could it be? That guy did say she was a Hunter…That would mean this is—!

"In addition, a Mythic can't wield a Relic…or use them."

"Huh?!" Riven blinked, his eyes wide. "W-Why is that?"

"Because," Kairo continued. "Relics are infused with a mineral called Aetherium."

Cyrus flinched in his seat, making Lucian glance at him.

"You seem jumpy all of a sudden." The prince observed. "Why's that?"

"Well, that's because that material, Aetherium…"

"...is the most lethal material known all Mythics…It acts all every single one of our weakness so a critical hit from one can be fatal.

"More so, a Mythic can't wield a Relic due to the weapon being made out of Aetherium thus it would never work with a Mythic and If wielded too long, it would start to burn us internally and might lead to death if contact with one prolongs." Kairo finished.

Riven dropped his shoulder as he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in, even though what he had heard was terrifying in its own way, it had relieved him that the piece of jewelry was just an ordinary one.

"Thank goodness…this means this isn't a Relic." he whispered more to himself.

"Thus, in order to defend yourselves against Hunters in the near future," Kairo said brushing the braid in front of his hair with a finger "You will all undergo training."

As if they were synched, everyone gulped, not because of the training but rather a bad feeling about the one they might deal with the one in front of them.

Ah f*ck me…

The student wore outfits that were different from their normal uniforms. A pair of black sweatpants with while lines by the sides and matching jackets that had the school's chest embroiled on the chest.

"Man this school really goes all out with this stuff, feels like one of those shounen academies in mangas..." Riven commented, looking back at his outfit admiring the seamless details of the clothing.

"I know right…Only this is kinda like them if you think about it." Azrael stroked his chin playfully, as though in deep though, as the two laughed at this gesture.

After walking for what seemed like a mile, they had reached an open forest. The sheer scene made the other stare in awe.

The trees stretched tall, even though they had seen years passed by they were still standing strong and vibrant, even the leaves seemed greener, and the grass swayed smoother as the cool breeze flowed through the air.

"Whoa, this place is beautiful…" Riven said taking a whiff of the air, it smelt peaceful and calming, he could smell it all.

The tranquil smell of the leaves. The earthy scent of the dirt. The elegant fragrance of the flowers. Everything flowed into his nostril as naturally as oxygen.

He paused.

Wait how did I do that?

The young werewolf was surprised, touching his nose, he thought as a Werewolf all of his sense would have been overwhelming but surprising it was almost naturally, though Kairo had told him that some werewolves have different ways to how their powers kick in.

"You're training will be taking place at this forest." stated Kairo as he stopped and turn to the group.

"And what might the training be about?" asked Harumi, placing a hand on her hip, her eyes already scanning each part of their surroundings.

"It's not that complex really," The older man said pocketing his hands. "You'll all be playing a simple game."

The air went quiet as the students all turned their gaze towards their teacher, the looks on their faces neither determination nor focused but rather—confusion.

"A game?!"
