Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Complete Victory in 1 vs 2, The Trip to Mount Miacha

"I'll be the referee for this match!" Professor Oak announced. "Now, Red from Pallet Town will battle Gary and Leaf, both from Pallet Town. Each player will use only one Pokémon. The player whose Pokémon is unable to battle first will lose!"

"The match begins!"

"Squirtle, use Water Gun!" "Bulbasaur, use Razor Leaf!"

"Flamethrower," Red instructed calmly.

It was a sunny morning, the perfect condition for Charmander's Solar Power ability to activate. Blazing flames erupted from its mouth, instantly evaporating Squirtle's Water Gun and incinerating the fragile Razor Leaf. The remaining fire engulfed Squirtle.

"Squirtle, use Rapid Spin now!" Gary commanded without a hint of panic.

The flames were extinguished by Squirtle's spinning shell, and the mist cleared. Squirtle stood, relieved. Gary's timely command had saved it from the 'sea of fire'.

"Bulbasaur, use Sleep Powder now!" Leaf ordered.

"Stir up the dust with your claws!" Red directed.

Charmander's sharp claws whipped up sand, dispersing the hypnotic powder aimed to control it.

After several exchanges, Charmander maintained the upper hand. However, Charmander occasionally panted, which raised Leaf's suspicions.

"How is this happening? We can't even land a hit!" Gary exclaimed anxiously.

"Calm down, Gary!" Leaf advised. "Haven't you noticed? Charmander pants after every move."

Leaf observed Charmander's stamina waning—a weakness of the Solar Power.

"So, you've noticed our weakness," Red chuckled, pulling his hat low. "But Charmander already knows Squirtle and Bulbasaur's evasive paths."

"What?!" they exclaimed in unison.

"Flamethrower!" Red commanded.

The intense heat of the flames enveloped the two Pokémon. Despite their attempts to dodge, Charmander instinctively pinpointed their locations, defeating them.

"Return, Charmander."

After restoring Charmander's stamina, Red recalled it. Just as he was about to leave, Leaf stopped him.

"Red, don't get the wrong idea. I'm not stopping you to team up!" Leaf's eyes hardened. "I admire your talent, and I'll team up with Bulbasaur to challenge you again at the Indigo League!"

Upon hearing Leaf's challenge, Red smiled faintly, "I'll be waiting."

"It's a deal!" Leaf replied happily. Ever since meeting Red, Leaf had harbored a desire to compete with him, motivating her to enter the League Tournament.

"Hey, don't forget about me!" Gary interjected. He couldn't be left out of a challenge against Red.

"See you later." Red waved goodbye, teleported away with Beedrill, leaving Professor Oak and the others surprised by his sudden disappearance.

Mount Miacha is home to massive Onix, famed for their extraordinary size. Red, fascinated by the giant Onix from the original tales, decided to capture one now to avoid competition with trainers like Bruno later.

"The power of aura guides my heart!"

Using his aura, Red tracked the giant Onix's path, arriving at a peculiar trail formed by a giant creature. Noticing the fresh trail, Red deduced the giant Onix was nearby.

"Roar!"

A roar echoed, and a giant Onix, towering like a building, appeared. It roared at Red, trying to intimidate the seemingly weak trainer. To the Onix, Beedrill alone was no match.

"Pin Missile!"

Beedrill launched a barrage of sharp needles at the giant Onix, which cried out in pain, surprised by Beedrill's power. Yet, it refused to yield its dominance over Mount Miacha.

The Onix's tail glowed white, striking at Beedrill. Beedrill evaded with high-speed movement, but Onix followed with Rock Slide, trying to trap Beedrill.

"Use Swords Dance to clear the rubble!" Red commanded.

Beedrill executed Swords Dance, boosting its attack power and making its twin needles seemingly indestructible.

"Use Brick Break!"

Beedrill's stingers glowed white, striking Onix's head for double the super-effective damage. The Swords Dance boost overwhelmed the giant Onix.

Dazed, Onix whipped up rocks with its tail, launching another Rock Slide. But Beedrill dismantled the falling rocks with Brick Break.

Unwilling to concede, Onix used Rock Tomb, sending sharp stones at Beedrill. Beedrill retaliated with Pin Missile, countering the attack.

"Finish it with Brick Break!" Red ordered, seeing Onix's stamina falter.

Beedrill crossed its needles, emitting a brilliant white light, and knocked Onix to the ground. Onix looked at Red and Beedrill, confused by its defeat.

"Join me on the path to becoming the strongest, Onix!" Red invited, seeing Onix still had some fight left.

"Do you think ruling Mount Miacha is your life's goal?" Red's words resonated with Onix's hidden desires.

"Roar..." Onix shook its head, not wanting to be limited.

"What do you think of Beedrill's strength?" Red asked.

Onix nodded, acknowledging its earlier underestimation of Beedrill. More importantly, it recognized Beedrill's strength as a result of Red's guidance.

"Will you help me become the world's top Pokémon Master? I'll also help you grow strong!" Red offered, holding a Poké Ball and looking intently at Onix.

After a moment, Onix lowered its head, touched the Poké Ball, and transformed into a red light, entering the Poké Ball. Onix didn't wish to remain a local ruler; this battle had ignited its ambition.

Other trainers had never dared challenge it, frightened by its size and scarred visage. They fled, lacking the courage to confront it.

"Come out, Onix." Red released the giant Onix, using a healing spray to mend its wounds. During this, Onix was startled by Red's teleportation, having just settled when Red appeared atop its head. Anyone would be surprised in such a situation.

"Welcome to the team, Onix," Red said, smiling, indicating his satisfaction.
