The bodies were still being cleared when the sun rose next day. Nyx was standing in the eastern training grounds, watching workers carry stretchers toward the morgue.
"You should rest." Kira said, standing beside her. "You've been standing here for three hours."
"Someone needs to honor what happened." Nyx replied.
She'd been talking to the families, offering condolences. Buy what would you say to a mother who'd lost her son or to a child who'd lost their father?
"That won't bring them back."
"But forgetting them dishonors their sacrifice."
"You sound like a leader." Kira said. "But remember this isn't over. The real attack is yet to happen."
"I know."
"So why are you standing here drowning in guilt when you should be preparing for it?" Kira asked.
"What should I do?"
