Chapter 57 - Mochi

"She's been here for six months now. Most people don't see past her quiet nature, but she's actually very affectionate once she trusts you." Sanemi looks at Giyuu with adoration as Mochi starts purring even louder. "What do you think, babe? Should we take her home today?" Giyuu nods eagerly, his heart already attached to the gray tabby.

"Yes... I want to give her a good home. She deserves it." The volunteer beams at their decision. "That's wonderful! We'll need to complete some adoption paperwork, and we'll need to stop by the pet store for supplies." Sanemi stands up, looking pleased. "Let's do this. I'll handle the paperwork while you keep holding Mochi." The volunteer leads them to a desk where they begin filling out adoption forms. Meanwhile, Mochi stays comfortably in Giyuu's lap, occasionally batting at his fingers.

"She's really taken to you," Sanemi observes with a smile, watching as Mochi's tail curls around Giyuu's wrist. The volunteer brings over a carrier. "We'll need to put her in this for the trip home. She might be a bit nervous at first, but she'll settle down quickly." Giyuu reluctantly lets Mochi into the carrier, watching anxiously as she sniffs around her new temporary home.

"Don't worry, she'll be fine. We'll make sure she feels safe at home," Sanemi reassures him, placing a hand on his shoulder. The volunteer hands them a bag of basic supplies. "Here are some essentials - food, litter, and a toy. You can pick up more specific items at the store." Sanemi pays for the adoption fees while Giyuu gently strokes Mochi through the carrier bars. "Ready to go home, little one?" he whispers to the cat. The volunteer waves them off with a smile.

"Congratulations! You're officially Mochi's new family. Remember to take her to the vet for checkups and she'll be just fine." Sanemi takes the carrier carefully, and they head back to the car. As they arrive back at the dorm, Sanemi glances around nervously. "We'll need to be really careful. The RA checks every room regularly." Giyuu looks worried but determined as they enter their room. "Maybe we could keep her in my closet? Or under my bed?" He starts setting up a makeshift cat bed in the corner of his room.

"We'll need to buy food that doesn't smell too strong. And we'll have to keep her litter box really clean." Sanemi nods, already planning their next steps. "I'll look up ways to sneak food and litter. Maybe we can order online and have it delivered to a PO box." He opens the carrier and Mochi cautiously steps out, sniffing her new surroundings.

"Shh, quiet little one. This is our secret now," Giyuu whispers to the cat, who seems to understand the need for stealth. Sanemi pulls out his phone. "We should probably start training her to be quiet too. And maybe get her a bell collar - just in case." Mochi curls up in her new bed, looking content despite the unfamiliar environment. "She's so well-behaved already," Giyuu observes, watching as she starts cleaning herself. Sanemi pulls Giyuu close, speaking in a hushed tone.

"We'll need to take turns feeding her. And we should probably find a way to clean the litter box without the RA noticing." He glances at the door anxiously. "Maybe we should start that now. I'll go get some supplies from the store while you keep her company." Giyuu nods, already making a mental list of things they'll need. "Be careful. And get some extra food just in case." Sanemi grabs his wallet and keys.

"I'll be quick. Keep the door locked and don't let anyone in while I'm gone."

He gives Giyuu a quick kiss before heading out, leaving Giyuu alone with their new furry roommate. Mochi stretches and meows softly, settling back down as if she's always belonged there. Giyuu sits on the floor next to Mochi, gently stroking her fur while she purrs contentedly. "You're so soft and sweet. We'll make sure you have a happy home here, even if it's a secret." The cat crawls onto his lap, kneading his thigh with her paws as she gets comfortable.

"I can already tell you're going to be our little secret keeper. Just don't give us away when Sanemi comes back, okay?" Mochi purrs louder in response, as if she understands. She starts grooming Giyuu's hand with her rough tongue. "That tickles!" Giyuu giggles softly, feeling more relaxed than he has in weeks. The cat continues her grooming session, occasionally nuzzling against Giyuu's chest.

"I think she likes me," he whispers, feeling a special bond forming between them already. Giyuu's breathing becomes steady and deep as he drifts off, Mochi curled up on his chest. The cat seems to sense his sleep and remains perfectly still. A few hours later, Sanemi returns quietly with bags of cat supplies, finding his boyfriend and their cat peacefully asleep together.

"Looks like you two are getting along great," he whispers with a smile, setting down the bags carefully. He pulls out his phone and takes a quick picture of the adorable scene, before starting to unpack the supplies. Sanemi works quietly to set up the litter box and organize the food in their closet, making sure everything is hidden well.

He then joins Giyuu on the floor, careful not to disturb Mochi as he wraps an arm around his sleeping boyfriend. "You're going to be a great cat dad," he murmurs softly, watching them both with affection. The cat opens one eye briefly, recognizing Sanemi but deciding Giyuu makes a better pillow. Sanemi gently strokes Mochi's head, earning a soft purr from her.

"Traitor," he whispers playfully, though he can't help but smile at how peaceful they look together. He pulls out his phone again, this time setting an alarm to wake Giyuu before the RA's inspection time. "I'll let you sleep a bit longer, but we'll need to be ready when the inspection comes." The alarm goes off exactly an hour later, and Sanemi quickly silences it before it can disturb Mochi or Giyuu.

"Babe, wake up. It's time to hide our little demon," he whispers, gently shaking Giyuu's shoulder. Mochi stretches and yawns, blinking sleepily as she adjusts to the movement. "Five more minutes..." Giyuu mumbles groggily, still half-asleep and reluctant to move. Sanemi chuckles softly, running his fingers through Giyuu's hair. "Come on, sleepyhead. The RA's gonna be here any minute. And our cat needs her hiding spot."

Mochi seems to understand the urgency, standing up and stretching her legs. "See? Even she's ready to go," Sanemi points out, watching as the cat looks expectantly at the closet. Giyuu finally opens his eyes, blinking up at Sanemi and the cat. "You're both so bossy..." he yawns, slowly sitting up and carefully transferring Mochi to his lap. The cat immediately starts grooming herself again, as if nothing unusual is happening.

"Let's get her settled before I have to face reality," Giyuu says with a resigned smile, standing up with Mochi in his arms. Sanemi leads the way to the closet, opening it quietly to reveal their newly prepared hiding spot. "I made it nice and cozy with some old blankets," he explains, showing the makeshift bed he's arranged. Mochi seems to inspect her new space with interest, her tail flicking curiously. "She'll be comfortable here. And I put some food and water bottles in too," Sanemi adds proudly.

Giyuu gently places Mochi in the closet, watching as she immediately starts investigating her new surroundings. "Be good in here, okay? We'll let you out soon," he whispers, stroking her fur one last time. Sanemi closes the closet door carefully, leaving just a small gap for air. "Now we wait. And try not to look suspicious when the RA comes," he says, straightening up their room a bit more. The sound of footsteps approaches their door, and both boys tense up.
