Chapter 4 - Warrior Test Arc: Preparing for the Test

The air within the communal tent was thick with anticipation and unspoken fear. Three young warriors, on the cusp of adulthood, were preparing for the most daunting challenge of their lives: the Test of the Warriors.

Nyx, despite the turmoil in his stomach, tried to maintain a calm demeanor. He knew that as the son of the Chieftain, the others would be looking to him for guidance, for reassurance. He drew upon the fragmented memories of his past life, recalling the survival tips he had gleaned from countless manga and documentaries.

He had chosen his equipment carefully, prioritizing practicality and versatility. In his hands, he held a sturdy axe, its head forged from the finest iron ore found in the Kiel territory. The handle was wrapped in layers of treated leather, providing a secure grip even in the harshest conditions. A round shield, crafted from layers of hardened wood and reinforced with bone, rested against the tent wall. He had chosen to travel light, prioritizing agility and maneuverability over heavy armor.

Torvin, his face a mask of forced bravado, hefted his double-bladed axe, its weight straining his slender frame. He had always been more physically imposing than Nyx, but lacked his friend's strategic mind and quiet confidence. He wore a thick bearskin cloak, its fur providing insulation against the biting cold. A quiver of arrows rested on his back, and a hunting knife was strapped to his thigh.

Lyra, the daughter of Freyja, was the most outwardly nervous of the three. She clutched a slender spear, its tip sharpened to a razor edge. Her eyes darted around the tent, her breath coming in short, shallow gasps. She wore a wolf pelt over her shoulders, but noticeably not wolf fur as the tribe respect the animal. and carried a small pouch filled with herbs and bandages.

Nyx surveyed their gear with a critical eye, drawing upon his knowledge of survival tactics. "We need to travel light, but be prepared for anything," he said, his voice calm and steady. "The forest will test us in ways we can't imagine."

"What do you mean, Nyx?" Lyra asked, her voice trembling slightly.

Nyx knelt down, examining her spear. "This is a good weapon for hunting, but it won't be much use against a bear or a pack of wolves. You need to stay alert, watch for signs of danger, and use your spear defensively."

He turned to Torvin, his gaze firm. "Your axes are powerful, but they're also heavy. Conserve your energy, don't waste your strength on unnecessary swings. And for the love of the gods, don't get separated from us."

Torvin nodded, his bravado momentarily fading. "I won't, Nyx. I promise."

Nyx pulled out a map he had painstakingly drawn from memory, using charcoal and birch bark. It depicted the surrounding terrain, marking known landmarks, potential dangers, and sources of food and water. "This is our route," he explained, tracing a line with his finger. "We'll follow the frozen river for the first day, then head into the hills. There's a sheltered cave there that we can use as a base camp."

He emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication. They would share their resources, watch each other's backs, and make decisions together. Survival, he knew, depended on their ability to work as a cohesive unit. He then starts discussing what to do at night and always on gaurd that he saw from the shows about the camping.

As they continued their preparations, Lyra suddenly burst into tears. "I can't do this," she sobbed, her voice filled with despair. "I'm not strong enough. I'm going to fail."

Nyx knelt down beside her, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Yes, you are," he said firmly. "You're a skilled hunter, a resourceful survivor, and a valuable member of this tribe. You're stronger than you think, Lyra. You just have to believe in yourself."

Torvin, despite his own fears, nodded in agreement. "Nyx is right, Lyra. We'll be there for you, every step of the way. We'll get through this together."

After what felt like an eternity, they were finally ready. They emerged from the tent, blinking in the bright sunlight. The entire Kiel tribe was gathered outside, their faces a mixture of pride, worry, and hope.

Borin stepped forward, his bear headdress casting a long shadow. He embraced Nyx tightly, his voice thick with emotion. "Be strong, my son," he whispered. "Be brave. And remember, the Kiel tribe is always with you."

Elara approached, her eyes filled with tears. She placed a hand on Nyx's forehead, then drew a series of glowing runes on his axe and shield. "These will protect you, Nyx," she said softly. "They will guide you, strengthen you, and help you unlock your true potential."

The shaman, her face etched with ancient wisdom, stepped forward, her voice ringing out across the clearing. "The test of the warriors is about to begin!" she proclaimed. "May the spirits guide you, may the runes protect you, and may your true powers be revealed!" She turned, looking at the skies she knew what power lies within the three.

With a final farewell to their families, Nyx, Torvin, and Lyra turned and began their journey into the depths of the dark, snowy forest.

As they walked, Nyx couldn't shake the feeling that this was more than just a test of survival. He sensed that something profound was about to happen, that their lives were about to change in ways they could never have imagined.

He turned to Torvin and Lyra, his expression serious. "Listen to me," he said. "We don't know what awaits us in this forest. But we have to be prepared for anything. We have to trust each other, rely on each other, and never give up, no matter how difficult things get. We have to work together, like that show man vs nature"

"The survival depends"
