Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Truth

EVA'S POINT OF VIEW

As I slowly awoke, my mind felt like it was trying to break through the surface of thick layers of fog. For a brief moment, I was lost, the elegant room and luxuriously soft bed nothing more than unfamiliar shadows. Panic fluttered in my chest until a wave of memories crashed over me, drowning out the confusion.

The dinner. The table. That haunting face.

Him.

My breath caught, and I shifted my gaze, drawing in a sharp breath. Elena was perched in a chair beside the bed, her body curled tightly as if she were trying to shield herself from the world. Her eyes were red and swollen, evidence of hours spent crying. Guilt washed over me, heavy and suffocating.

"Mom." Her voice was a soft melody, thick with relief. "You're awake."

I attempted to sit up, and she was instantly at my side, hands gentle as she propped me up with pillows. My body felt leaden, my mind still entangled in the remnants of whatever the doctor had administered.
