Chapter 34 - A Dream?

 I lay on my side, one arm tucked beneath my pillow, the other resting limp against the mattress, my body half-sunk into that hazy space between wakefulness and sleep. 

Then I heard the sound of the door creak open, I opened my eyes, before my mind had fully registered what I'd heard. I saw a figure standing. 

Nathan?

I pushed myself up on one elbow, the sheets slipping down to my waist, leaving my shoulders bare. "What are you doing here in the middle of the night?" My voice came out huskier than I intended, thick with sleep and something else. 

He didn't move, neither did he speak. Just stood there, his gaze locked onto mine with an intensity that made my skin tighten.

Then, without a word, he stepped forward, climbing onto the bed.

"Nathan"? I called softly, almost like a whisper. His hand cupped my jaw and his thumb grazed my lower lip, pulling it down just enough to part my mouth, and then—he kissed me.
