Looking at the strange door that had suddenly appeared, Kiyan was filled with questions.
"When did Minecraft start spawning wooden doors?"
Although the door was strange, Kiyan didn't hesitate. As the noble Steve, how could he be scared by a sudden unknown thing? Even if it were a Warden, Kiyan would go up and punch it a couple of times just to see what it drops. How could a mere strange wooden door scare him?
Kiyan stretched out his hand toward the door without hesitation. The moment he touched it, the wooden door opened automatically.
Behind the open door, a portal's light appeared, shimmering in front of Kiyan.
"So this is a portal? What's on the other side? The Nether, the Aether, or the Twilight Forest?"
Kiyan stood before the wooden door, studying it for a long time, but naturally learned nothing.
"Tsk. Looks like the only way to find out what this is is to go in. Staring at it really doesn't reveal anything."
His mind made up, Kiyan didn't hesitate. He strode toward the door and stepped into the shimmering light of the portal.
The moment he entered the portal, Kiyan felt the world spin. Fortunately, the dizziness didn't last long. Soon, a brand-new scene appeared before his eyes.
Behind the door wasn't the Nether, the Aether, or the Twilight Forest. It was the world of Attack on Titan.
If you asked Kiyan why he was so sure, it was because the 50-meter-high wall in front of him was just too obvious.
Attack on Titan, as one of the famous "gourmet" anime, had left a deep impression on Kiyan back in the day. The story tells of Paradis Island, which built three 50-meter walls to defend against the Titan invasion, only to have its hundred years of peace suddenly shattered one day by two Titans.
Titans are monsters with no intelligence that only eat humans. They range from three to fifteen meters in height and possess powerful regenerative abilities. This strong regeneration allows a Titan to recover even if its head is blown to bits, all within a minute or two. Their only weak spot is the nape of their neck.
Although the Titans are incredibly powerful, the 50-meter walls cannot be destroyed by ordinary Titans. The ones who destroyed the hundred years of peace on Paradis Island were two special Titans: one was the 60-meter-tall Colossal Titan, and the other was the Armored Titan.
The protagonist, Eren, who had always seen the walls as a cage and yearned for freedom outside, had his freedom completely stolen by the Titans after the wall was breached. Afterward, Eren joined the Survey Corps and eventually learned the truth about the Titans, and the truth of the world.
In short, Attack on Titan is a story about a group of people struggling to break their chains and yearning for freedom, only to find they cannot escape, and so they struggle on.
Most importantly, Kiyan was not at all satisfied with the story's ending!
But while those things were important, he had something even more important to do right now.
To get rich, first punch trees.
Standing right in front of Kiyan were several large trees. Kiyan immediately walked over to the trees and started punching one.
The spot Kiyan was hitting soon began to show the familiar cracks. They were the cracks from Minecraft that appear just before a block breaks. As the cracks spread over a one-meter section of the trunk, the targeted part of the trunk vanished. The original tree was instantly split into two parts. The lower stump remained rooted in the ground. The upper trunk and canopy, however, floated in the air.
The part Kiyan had punched turned into a Minecraft oak log and dropped onto the stump below. The small, spinning block on the stump was quickly sucked into Kiyan's hand.
Looking at this scene, Kiyan couldn't help but marvel.
"So, the rules of my world are superior to the rules of the Attack on Titan world?"
Kiyan aimed at the ground and placed the oak log block from his hand. A perfectly square oak log appeared on the ground. Then, he punched the ground, and after a moment, a dirt block appeared in the one-cubic-meter hole he had made.
Kiyan looked up at his surroundings and couldn't help but shout.
"I lack nothing now!"
Kiyan suppressed his excitement and continued punching the trees. Soon, the entire tree had been converted into oak logs in his hands. The lush leaves even dropped oak saplings and apples for him.
Kiyan quickly crafted a workbench in his inventory, then used it to craft a wooden shovel, a wooden axe, and a wooden pickaxe with Unbreaking III.
Holding his wooden tools, Kiyan quickly harvested all the blocks he could see. Just moments ago, Kiyan was giving up because he couldn't get an iron shovel, but now he had everything he needed.
Dirt, stone, and saplings... in other games, they might be useless or just background scenery. But in Minecraft, you could use these things to create an entirely new world.
Just as Kiyan was busy working, a farm woman approached a group of soldiers and spoke to a flat-topped blond man.
"Hannes, a strange person appeared east of town. He's digging a huge pit in the open field."
The flat-topped blond man in front of her was Hannes, a member of the Garrison Regiment stationed at the gate of Shiganshina District.
At the start, Hannes was just an old slacker, lost with his colleagues in the fantasy of "the walls are eternal." He once said that them slacking off and being laughed at as lazy bums was a sign of peace and prosperity within the walls.
However, the Colossal Titan's kick not only broke open the gate of Shiganshina District, it also kicked Hannes awake. In the end, Hannes grew from a cowardly soldier who fled from the Titans into a Garrison Regiment artillery captain, a fine soldier capable of drawing his blade against the Titans.
As for the result of drawing his blade against the Titans... that's another story. But that was later, and this was now.
At this moment, Hannes reeked of alcohol. It seemed that while "rehydrating" from thirst, he had accidentally drunk a bit of "wheat juice."
Hannes looked at the serious-faced woman, unconcerned.
"It's just digging a little dirt in a field. What's the big deal?"
"What do you mean 'a little dirt'? It's a huge patch of land!"
Hannes, slightly drunk, just smiled at her, ignoring her rebuttal. He even picked up his bottle, preparing to take another swig.
Seeing this, the woman exploded like a cat with its fur on end. She immediately swung her hand and smacked Hannes on the head. The bottle was knocked from Hannes's hand, flying toward his comrades, who burst out laughing as they watched him get hit.
The woman glared angrily at the laughing soldiers and shouted at them.
"The Survey Corps just got back from being 'tax-thieves,' completely defeated. Are you Garrison soldiers going to be tax-thieves just like them?"
The Survey Corps was the branch responsible for exploring the outside world, gathering intelligence on the Titans, and attempting to reclaim lost human territory. But the gap between humans and Titans was enormous. As the only corps that ventured beyond the protection of the walls to take the offensive, the Survey Corps faced extremely high risks.
Hearing the woman's scolding, the soldiers' smiles vanished. The tragic state of the Survey Corps's return earlier that day was still fresh in their minds. The returning Survey Corps had suffered heavy casualties. Almost every soldier who came back was injured. But the most critical part was that, once again, the Survey Corps had returned with nothing to show for it.
Seeing the woman's serious expression, Hannes sobered up considerably.
"Sorry, ma'am. I'll go check it out right now."
