Chapter 3 - First Day At School

Freya felt that the magic broom was actually not very practical. The handle was so hard that it dug into her inner thighs. Also, she was wearing a skirt, so even though she was wearing leggings underneath, she still felt a little uncomfortable.

However, the broom was really fast.

High in the sky, she had admired the view of the school. Seeing it on the ground was completely different from seeing it in the air. The campus was really massive, and it was enveloped by water stretching to the horizon. The whole school was like an island rising from the middle of the water.

Impractical but more convenient than her feet, that was Freya's assessment of her new ride, adding to her great mood.

"You..."

Seeing Freya in one piece and looking all smug, May couldn't help but ask, "You didn't go back to the dormitory last night?"

Freya gave her a confused look

"I did go back."

May replied decisively: "There's only one way to go back to the dormitory, how could you not run into…"

May stopped herself just in time before changing her words.

"Where did you sleep? I was worried that you couldn't find your way yesterday, so I went back to look for you, but I didn't see you."

"Oh… it's like that," Freya tipped her head to the side.

"My luck was malfunctioning, I tripped and fell into the area behind the fence. It took me a while to climb up, and when I did, I was already at the entrance of the dormitory."

She spoke earnestly, as if it were true.

When May heard this, she was so mad that she laughed.

The school set up fences on both sides of the road because the area behind was extremely dangerous. As soon as the sky went dark, the green plants would become aggressive.

Last time, two classmates from the Xianxia Department were fighting in the middle of the night, and one fell behind the fence. When they went to look for the body, there weren't even bones.

But Freya didn't even blink when she lied, did she think May was a three-year-old child?

But seeing her this way, May suddenly felt that her first impression of this freshman had been completely off the mark. After all, those who gained admittance to this school were all the vilest of the villains…

The female villains of the modern department were all masters of obfuscation and seduction who strung up men by the dozen. This person looked like a white lotus flower, but who knew what wolf hid under her sheep skin?

May was so angry that she didn't even want to control her facial expressions. She clenched her teeth and glared at Freya instead.

"Get out of the way."

Freya still wanted to say something, but May had already walked away, three steps at a time. She felt befuddled but didn't take it to heart. Carrying her little magic broom, she followed the signs and found Class 1 of the Modern Department.

There were thirty people per class. The classroom was no different from those of her university days, and everything was modern.

Sitting in the first row, May saw her enter and looked away.

Freya's seat number was included in the freshman handbook.

She quickly found her seat and realized she'd be sitting in the second-to-last row from the window. Her tablemate was a girl with a high ponytail who Freya couldn't see clearly, as she was lying on the table and sleeping.

Freya turned her head and observed the students around her.

Most of the people seemed to be exhausted, either slumping on the table and napping like her tablemate or yawning again and again.

Only a few classmates looked radiant, such as the female classmate sitting in the last row. She was holding a small mirror to touch up her makeup, and her eyeliner outlined a pair of sultry eyes that were almost impossible to look away from.

At exactly ten o'clock, the homeroom teacher came in.

The head teacher was a young man, tall and taciturn. He held a tablet in his hand. As soon as he entered the classroom, he yawned lazily.

"Where did we get to in yesterday's class?"

After waiting for a response and receiving none, he yawned again before speaking.

"Oh, I remember, today is the time to read the 'Heart Sutra.' You people should listen to the Buddhist scriptures more to cleanse the mind instead of thinking about violence all day.."

He stopped abruptly as if he had remembered something.

"By the way, there is a new student here today, named…" The teacher flipped through the roster, yawned again, and said, "Freya Sorace."

The head teacher looked at Freya with what seemed to be a bit of pity in his otherwise indifferent expression.

"Treasure your time at school. The student in your seat before you died within three months. No matter how vicious your thoughts are, or how many sins you commit, when you come to our school, you have to cultivate your emotions, have benevolent thoughts, study hard for exams, and understand the true meaning of life…"

The supposed advice sounded more like a memorized script than genuine concern. Freya could only nod along until the teacher changed the subject.

"Anyways, back to the lesson. Yesterday we were at , 'No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no form, sound, smell, taste, touch or dharmas; no eye consciousness so on unto mind consciousness; no ignorance and extinction of ignorance; even unto no aging and death and no extinction of aging and death,' the meaning of this passage is…"

The tone of the class teacher's lectures was boring, and he droned on and on as if reading from a book he couldn't care less for, making the already sleepy environment even more sleepy.

Because it was her first day of class, Freya listened very carefully.

"You don't have to listen so well, and you actually don't have to listen at all. Most of the midterm and final exams are rote memorization. As long as you memorize all of the texts, you can get points. Are you a new classmate? My name is Angela Cruz."

Freya's deskmate's voice was surprisingly pleasant, like the clear tinkling of spring water. She turned her head and saw Angela looking at her with deer like brown eyes.

The girl continued: "Every new villain who comes in feels that they're very powerful. But modern villains like us, at most, they want to make money, kill people, and give the protagonists a hard time. If only the universe was such a simple place."

Freya tilted her head to the side, staring at her deskmater with confusion etched on her face.

"What does that mean?"

Angela chuckled, her eyes glazing over as if remembering memories she wished she could forget.

"Well, here are three things you must remember to survive in this place. One, don't mess with the fantasy department. Before they went through reform, those big guys could wipe out half of the world with just one snap.

Two, don't play with the students in the ancient era department. The villains there are thinking about usurping power every day, and they band together to stir things up to make one of themselves the principal.

"And lastly, three, Rex Croft, the Xianxia department's playboy, is a super pervert. Don't have any emotional attachments to him."

Angela finished, wiping the sleepiness from her eyes

"Sounds like lessons learned from one's sweat, blood, and tears." Freya remarked, slightly touched by this stranger's kindness.

"Yup. Mine. And seeing as you are my deskmate, we were fated to meet, so I'm telling you all this."

Freya smiled.

"Thank you. But are there only written exams? I bought a potion at the magic potion stall today, and the owner said that I could use his physical potion for the exam."

Angela replied almost immediately.

"Of course not. The rote memorization exams I mentioned are not important. Although you can get points, they still don't match the points needed for survival.

You are a freshman and haven't officially taken an exam yet, but one is sure to be soon. I remember when I first came to the school, I took the freshman exam on the fifth day."

Freya inquired again to try to completely understand the points system of the villain school.

There was a fixed examination with 100 random people every month. The content of the examination was undefined, and the school randomly arranged candidates to enter the examination room. Only the top 50 could get a guaranteed minimum score of 50. The top ten would get additional points based on their performance in the examination room.

Students could sign up for other exams by themselves. When the number of people reached 100, the time of the opening of the exam room would be announced, and the scoring rules would be the same as the monthly ones.

In addition to the half-elimination test, there was another promotion test, which was also open to 100 people, but included four tests. The first round would eliminate 50 of 100 participants, the second eliminating 25 of 50, the third eliminating 12 of 25, and the fourth eliminating 7 of 13.

The top six would score points, and the guaranteed minimum score was 500.

All the exams, except the first exam for freshmen, were school-wide exams. All the departments could join, and students in the exam room could attack and kill students without any punishment. Death in the exam room was real death.

The first exam for a freshman was the department exam, which had a high safety factor and was considered part of the protection period for freshmen.

The above was one of the main ways to get points. Apart from exams, there were also miscellaneous ways to get points, such as final and midterm exams, as well as full attendance points for every month's classes. The reward was only twenty points, but students were charged double for absences and failing exams.

The only way to get the remaining points was to do extra work on the side.

Angela explained: "I was a singer and dancer before, and I can barely survive here. There are no other job opportunities here, and I don't want to sell my body. I can only broadcast in my room every night to earn some points so that I'm not eliminated. I have no other dreams now. My only goal is to earn enough points to buy some self-defense tools in the dimensional mall.

When you pass the freshman exam, the dimensional mall will also be open to you. The props in the dimensional mall are much higher quality than those sold by the students in the school. It's a pity that I have been here for more than a year, and I am still D-level; just like you, I have a cyan bracelet."

Freya then remembered the owner of the magic potion stall who had a purple bracelet, and the owner of the soy milk and fritters stall next door had a blue bracelet.

"Levels are differentiated by bracelet colors?"

"Yes, D-level is cyan, blue is C-level, purple is B-level, silver is A-level, and S-level is gold. I heard that there are SS-level and SSS-level further up, corresponding to black and black-gold.

But if you can reach this level, it is estimated that your points are full and you can leave the school. There are no S grades in our modern era department, but there are a few big guys in other departments who are S grades. The xianxia playboy Rex Croft is S-Level. I saw him from a distance, the golden bracelet is really extravagant."

Angela's tone was full of envy. As if thinking of something, she added: "Hey, you shouldn't buy magic potions, these merchants just want to scam people, five points for one tube is basically stealing. He is just using the guise of winning a magic broom in a lottery to attract people, and he…"

Angela's eyes suddenly fell on the broom next to Freya, and she stuttered, "Holy… fuck…"

"This…this…is this the legendary lottery magic broom?"

"What did you do in the past? Is it the legendary koi luck? Do you belong to the type of people who don't have to do anything and support their whole families on Weibo lotteries?"

Freya snorted.

"I'm in the same career path as you; I'm an actor. I've won the Weibo lottery many times, but my account was actually deleted because Weibo thought I was a cheating bot."

Angela's eyes lit up. Clasping her hands together, she exclaimed, "The koi immortal has boundless energy, please bless me to get to the top 50 in the next exam."

Freya: "…"

Angela now became more enthusiastic. She put her arm around Freya like they were old buddies from their past lives.

"By the way, I'm warning you, you have to be careful with May. She is not a good person, and many new students are caught in her webs the second they get to our school.

She's a pimp and did a lot of bad things in the name of helping new students. You didn't fall into her hands last night, did you?"

Freya blinked as the events of this morning finally made a lot more sense.

"No, I guess I got lucky. I'll be more careful of her from now on."
