Chapter Twenty-Five: Fighting over Zahid
Angel froze, her breath caught somewhere between her throat and her chest. Zahid's fingers, still resting on her cheek from that almost-kiss, tensed before slowly dropping away.
Neither of them spoke.
For a brief second, they just stood there, two adults who had almost crossed a line both of them knew wasn't to be crossed yet, they stood there staring into each other's eyes while something inside the house begged for attention.
Zahid reacted first.
He stepped back, his jaw tightening as he turned toward the hallway.
"Stay here," he said, voice low
Angel's heart jumped at how protective it was.
He moved quickly, taking long strides into the house. Angel hesitated only for a moment before quickly following him, her bare feet soft against the cold tiles.
The closer they got, the clearer the sound became.
A small groan, then a tiny, exaggerated sigh.
Angel blinked.
"…Malik?"
They reached the living room at the same time.
