A story from novice verse]

Silence.

Then—

"Sneaky human."

The voice came from nowhere and everywhere, curling through the edges of Joshua's thoughts like smoke. His eyes snapped open, glowing faintly in the dark.

He knew that voice.

> "Seems you've gotten yourself in quite a pickle,"

the voice said, light and amused. A low chuckle followed, the kind that belonged to someone who always knew more than they should.

Joshua's face twisted.

> "Why are you here?"

> "I'm your guardian angel, boy," the voice answered with theatrical pride.

"That's my punishment for trying to scam you."

Joshua blinked.

> "That seems like a vacation instead."

The angel let out a long, weary sigh.

> "You have no idea how screwed up this world really is."

Joshua ignored the sarcasm and clenched his tiny fists.

> "That doesn't matter. Get my sword—help my mother fight."

> "Uhmmm…" the angel hesitated, his tone instantly less confident.

"About that—I know I said I'm your guardian, but I can only give you information, advice, and very limited assistance."

Joshua's eyes narrowed.

> "So… you're completely useless."

> "Hey!" the angel barked, offended. "I'm not useless. The Creator just… trusts you to handle things on your own. I'm only here to make sure you don't die too early."

Joshua exhaled, shaking his head.

> "I need help right now."

He turned his gaze back toward the battlefield.

His mother's form wavered in the distance, her blade heavy, her breath short. Each swing looked slower, heavier—yet her eyes burned with something fierce, something unyielding.

The angel's tone softened.

> "You weren't supposed to awaken yet. Neither were your blessings or powers. Your body's still too fragile to contain them. But…"

A pause.

> "…your prayer stirred me. You reached deeper than most mortals could."

The voice seemed to fade for a heartbeat, then return, quieter.

> "I can help you unlock one blessing. It will protect her… but it comes at a price."

Joshua's heart stuttered.

> "What price?"

> "Your body won't handle it well. You might lose consciousness, maybe worse. But you'll save her."

He looked again at his mother—Laura—fighting even when her body was breaking apart, even when her legs trembled and blood soaked her sleeves.

There was no hesitation. Only resolve.

He nodded once, eyes hard.

> "Let's do this."

The angel sighed—half admiration, half pity.

> "Stubborn, just like her."

He raised a glowing hand, lines of divine script swirling into existence. The symbols spun around Joshua like tiny suns, their light humming against the air.

> "Then may the first blessing answer your will."

He pressed his palm against Joshua's chest.

> "Brace yourself, Joshua."

Light erupted.

The midwife gasped as Joshua's body lifted from her arms, wrapped in a radiant glow so bright it burned the shadows away. The wind trembled, windows shattered, and every torch in the village flickered violently.

Baby Joshua hovered midair, tiny body engulfed in a celestial blaze.

The angel's voice echoed one last time—distant, reverent, proud:

> "Awaken, Child of Blessings. Show them the will of your soul."

The light intensified until it swallowed everything—

and the world itself seemed to come to a pause.
