Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 11: A Glimpse of Her Heart

After a while, Abhi said, "Here, you stand here. I'll be right back. Stay here. Don't go anywhere," he added.

"Am I a small child that I'll get lost? I know," she replied, annoyed.

"Yes, I know you. That's why I'm telling you this many times," he retorted before walking away. Tulasi looked around and saw a small boy near a cake shop, crying and pointing at a cake to his parents. The parents looked rather poor.

The cakes in that shop were quite expensive. Tulasi smiled, approached the boy, paid for the cake he desired, and bought it. Taking the cake, she went to the child.

"Here, it's my birthday today, and I have no friends. Will you celebrate my birthday with me?" she asked. She had the boy cut the cake, fed him a small piece, and took a bite herself.

"I can't eat all of this. If you don't mind, will you take it home?" she asked, having the rest of the cake packed and handing it to the boy. His father kept protesting, "No, madam, we don't need anything".

"Oh, sir, don't deny a child's happiness, sir. It's just cake, what am I giving him?" she insisted. As she turned to walk away, as if to avoid any further protest, she found Abhi standing there. He raised an eyebrow, watching her.

"What? Do you still have money to buy a cake?" he asked sarcastically. Abhi had a reason for asking that.

One day, while he was in his room, a nurse came.

"Sir, sir, please tell that doctor, sir," the nurse began.

"Which doctor? "

"Your assistant doctor, Dr. Tulasi?" she said in a worried tone. "Yes, sir! Her entire salary goes to donations, sir! If any patient says they don't have money or that their money isn't sufficient , she helps them!"

"Oh?" Abhi responded.

"Sir, if it were just money, it would be fine, sir. But yesterday, there was an accident case, sir. They didn't have money on time. So, Tulasi went and put her gold bangles at the bill counter, saying she would take them back after deducting the amount from her next month's salary! She paid their bill, sir! She didn't have money on time, that's why she pawned her bangles," the nurse explained. "You tell her, sir, how can this continue?".

"Alright, I'll take care of it. You may leave," Abhi had told the nurse. He then went to the counter, took her bangles, paid the bill, and returned them to Tulasi when she came to his room.

Tulasi was shocked. "I'll give it back from my next month's salary, sir."

"I don't need your money. You can help, Tulasi, but not like this," he had said.

"But sir, lives are at stake. Will we lose lives over bangles?"

" What does it have to do with you?"

" sir? "

"That's their business. How can you keep helping like this?" he had argued.

"I'll do what I can, sir. What's wrong with that? Money will come and go but lives… " she had replied. Abhi had been shocked by her stubbornness.

Now, back in the mall, Abhi called out, "Come, Tulasi, let's have lunch. Will you eat chicken biryani?"

"Today, I'm not eating non-veg,today" she replied.

"What? It's Sunday, isn't it?"

"I worship the sun god on Sundays, so I don't eat non-veg. "

"Hmm, fine," he said, and after they had lunch, he took her to a movie despite her protest.
