Ana's POV
After Irvin walked out, Morris's attention shifted to me.
"You alright?" he questioned.
I shook my head. "Thanks."
Morris's brow furrowed, ready to say something, but I waved my hand with a grin. "I know, I know. Every 'thank you' gets tallied up, and I'll pay you back someday."
I let go of Morris's hand and moved to the couch. An untouched water bottle sat on the coffee table. I twisted it open and took a drink.
Watching me pull myself together, Morris seemed to relax and settled beside me on the couch.
"I'm wondering," I said, "what exactly are you planning for me to repay? Seems like there's nothing you actually need from me."
Morris had money, connections, success in both work and life. I couldn't think of anything I could offer him.
Morris looked my way, something possessive flickering in his eyes, though he kept it hidden. "Future's unpredictable. Let's keep that debt open."
