I rolled my eyes at Morris's teasing tone.

After settling into life with the Vernon family, my thoughts kept drifting back to the studio. And with those thoughts came the memory of Morris's 600 thousand—300 thousand as investment, 300 thousand as a loan. Now that I had funds, I needed to pay him back.

"Morris, send me your bank details. I want to return your money."

"What money?" He sounded genuinely confused.

"Remember? You helped me win Grandma's painting for 600 thousand."

Understanding flickered in his voice as he chuckled softly. "That was an investment in your studio, wasn't it?"

"You invested 300 thousand, and my studio hasn't even launched yet. Let me transfer the other 300 thousand back, plus some interest. How about 330 thousand total?"

"Ms. Watson, you're feeling generous today. I'd be foolish to decline."

He texted me his account details. I transferred the money immediately, and once he confirmed receipt, we fell into easy conversation.
