Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 Cold Calculations

Jefferson's POV

The room fell dead silent. I watched as Gordon's confidence cracked, uncertainty flickering across his features. Cathrine's face went white, all color draining away like water from a broken dam. Elisabeth turned on her friend, her eyes flashing with pure annoyance. "Really, Alana?"

Alana lifted one shoulder in a careless shrug. "You promised not to tell. I never made that deal."

I remained perfectly still, saying nothing. Silence was my strongest card, and I knew exactly how to play it. Did they think I was blind? I'd been watching Gordon and Cathrine dance around each other for weeks now. Their stolen looks, the way they tried too hard to act like they hated each other - pathetic attempts at hiding what was obvious.

The tension in the room grew thicker. Everyone waited for my reaction, holding their breath.

I let them wait. Let the uncertainty eat at them.
