I stood in front of my vanity mirror, wrestling with a stubborn hair clip, my emotions a volatile storm of relief and fury. The combination threatened to tear me apart as I tried to focus on getting ready for the ball that would begin in minutes.
The sequence of events played on repeat in my mind like a broken record. First came his lies, then his sudden departure to Spain. More lies followed, accompanied by his mysterious disappearance, and now, even after the rescue team had successfully located him and Javier, he still refused to return home immediately. The final insult was his complete refusal to answer my calls.
Ever since the moment the search team confirmed they had found both men safe, Jefferson had deliberately avoided any contact with me. The deafening silence between us was driving me to the edge of madness, my thoughts spinning endlessly as I tried to understand his reasoning.
