Jefferson's POV
The flames devoured everything in their path, their orange tongues dancing against the mansion's walls with terrifying hunger. I remained motionless, transfixed by the destruction unfolding before me. The heat pressed against my face like a furnace, yet I couldn't tear myself away from the sight.
This was exactly what I had orchestrated. What I had desperately wanted.
A twisted sense of satisfaction coursed through my veins as I watched the inferno rage. In my mind, I could picture his terror, could almost hear his desperate cries as he realized there was no escape. He would finally pay for everything he had done to me, to our family.
He couldn't get out. Halle's spell had ensured that.
I stepped closer to the blazing structure, the searing heat warning me to stay back, when Cathrine's voice cut through my dark thoughts like a blade.
"What are you doing just standing there?" Her scream pierced the night air, raw with absolute terror. "Our parents are in there!"
