Chapter 3 - Status

Red calmed down. There was nothing he could do about the curse, and he didn't know how to undo the curse either. He just needed to fulfill the condition, so the curse didn't get triggered again. That meant he needed to leave the tribe to hunt.

After the Awakening, the tribe allowed the one-year-old to leave. It was time for them to fulfill their duty after being fed for a year. A duty to pay back what the tribe had done for them, to raise them. It was to bring back food and maybe become a warrior, just like the Chief.

The warrior of the tribe didn't need to hunt for food. Their duty was to protect the tribe from invasion. Not only to protect, they went out on a mission to plunder to bring goods and women. They would attack the weakly guarded merchant caravan or the village with minimal guards. That was their holy duty for the tribe.

Warrior was still far from Red's hand, so he didn't think about that far yet. The thing he should focus on now was to hunt and fill his own belly, and he might be able to fill his belly with his prey today.

A day after awakening, he was supposed to pick a weapon of his choice. That was when the hunt started.

Red looked outside through the gap of his huts and realized the sun was on top already. It was noon, and it was too late for him to pick the weapon of his choice. He believed the other kids of his generation had already picked the weapon in the best condition.

Even if he arrived early, he was not confident that he was allowed to pick a weapon first. Just like the Awakening ritual, the adults who guard the place would stop him from picking up the weapon first.

Rather than thinking about what kind of weapon he would get, there was something more important than that. It was the result of his awakening. Even though he didn't know much about the awakening, he overheard the other kids say "Status" after the ritual was over.

He didn't know what "Status" meant, but he felt it was something he should do right after yesterday's Awakening.

"Status…" His hoarse voice echoed in the room, and a bigger blue screen appeared before him. It was a similar blue screen he saw after the awakening.

Name: ???

Level: 0

Health: 22 Stamina: 60 Mana: 100

[Tier 0 Might]

Strength: 9 Endurance: 6 Vitality: 3 Dexterity: 4

[Tier 0 Magic]

Intelligence: 10 Wisdom: 10 Arcane Perception: 8 Mind: 8

Skills:

Tier 1 Skill: Mana Sense (Passive) - Level 1, Levelheaded (Passive) - Level 10

Tier 5 Skill: Infernal Berserk - Level 1

Negative Status:

Curse of the Hunter - Level 1

Red didn't understand most of it. Like what level represented, or what Might or Magic was. He didn't understand what those numbers represented, but he guessed bigger numbers were better.

While he didn't understand most of it, he understood one thing: his name was not "???". He didn't know why it appeared that way.

Everything was confusing to him. He understood what Strength was, but he didn't know the others. Then there he saw the curse at the end of the blue screen.

His curiosity moved his hand to touch the screen, right at the curse. To his surprise, it gave him information about the curse. It was the information he already knew, but there was additional information, the most important information.

[Curse of Hunter: It's a curse, but the real hunter calls it a blessing!]

[Curse: You must hunt 10 prey of your level, or five prey one level above you, or three prey three levels above you, or one prey four levels above you, every day. If you fail to fulfill it, you will be inflicted with extreme pain in a random part of your body on that day. Kill the caster to remove the curse!]

The last sentence contained the most important information that didn't show up in the first notification. It told him how to get rid of the curse, and he was confident by now that the Shaman was the caster of the curse.

Red knew how to get rid of the curse, but the information was almost useless now. It was almost useless because he didn't have the confidence to kill the Shaman. If he had the ability to do so, he would not have survived after killing the Shaman. The tribe would hunt and kill him.

Even if he had a way to kill the Shaman, he must not be seen. He must not let anyone suspect him. With his current status within the tribe, the tribe would not hesitate to execute him just on suspicion.

"Calm down, Red. You will get the chance one day…" He muttered in a low voice.

After finding out he could press to get information, the first thing he did was to tap "???" in his name. This screen knew so many details about his strength and other things, yet it didn't know his name.

[You don't have a name yet!]

Red frowned and didn't like what it told him. He had a name, even though he didn't like it. He accepted it even though it was not his given name, but it was still his name.

"My name is RED!"

He didn't know what to expect; maybe he expected "???" would change into "Red". He stared at the blue screen, hoping his name would change, but nothing happened.

Red repeated telling the screen his name to the point of almost screaming, but that didn't work. That frustrated him, not just that he didn't have a place in this tribe, but he apparently didn't have a name based on this screen.

There was no response either; it didn't even tell him why he didn't have a name. This was a similar issue with his curse. He didn't understand how this screen worked, so he would be wasting his time if he continued his attempt to change his name.

He gave up on the name and tapped Health. He didn't know what it represented, Health and Mana, while he understood Stamina. At least, he thought so.

[Health: Represent your life force. Make sure not to let your health go down to zero, or you will die!]

That was easy to understand because of the last sentence. If the number went to zero, he would die. That explained what it was. He hoped the name would say more than just that he didn't have a name yet. Red let out a sigh and tapped Mana.

[Mana: Represent your magical capacity. It's a magical source to use skills, innate abilities that require mana, enchantments, and magical tools.]

Even with the additional explanation, he still didn't know what it meant. He read it again, repeating it another five times, and he still could not understand it. He gave up as it was pointless to force it.

Red figured out what Stamina was, so he skipped it. He directly skipped to Endurance, Vitality, and Dexterity consecutively.

[Endurance: It measures your Stamina and physical resilience.]

[Vitality: It measures your health and physical toughness.]

[Dexterity: It measures your speed, precision, and reaction speed.]

Endurance correlated directly with his Stamina. It said he had 60 Stamina; it meant 1 Endurance was equal to 10 Stamina. He understood it after reading it again for the second time. When he understood the Endurance, it was easier to understand the Vitality.

He also quickly understood about Dexterity, but it didn't really correlate with any number on his screen. This got him curious about Strength, wondering if the Strength represented any number on his screen. He tapped Strength to find out.

[Strength: It measures your raw physical power.]

He already understood it roughly, and this just confirmed his guess. This might be the reason he was stronger than the other kids. He easily overpowered the other kids, meaning those kids had less strength than he did. That made sense, but he was disappointed because he hoped it would be represented with numbers just like Endurance and Vitality.
