Chapter 20 - New Equipment

Red came out of the weapon storage after an hour, going through almost all the stuff inside. Probably more than an hour because the guards had been shouting his name. He came out bringing three things from the storage.

A set of leather armor in his left hand. The color wore off, and it looked in a bad condition. That might be the reason why no one picked it up. However, thanks to his Appraisal skill, he was able to find this out. Without the skill, he would not pick it.

His choice of weapon was a dagger. It was slightly longer than a normal dagger. It looked like it started to look rusty, but he knew it was not rust because the Appraisal told him the dagger was in excellent condition.

His last choice was a ranged weapon, a unique one, and this was the first time he saw it. Appraisal told him it was called Slingshot. The main frame was made of a silver metal, and there was leather covering it, making it more comfortable to hold.

He was not stupid enough to pick it out unless he could see the string, since it had three strings. He tried to pull it, and he managed to pull it to the maximum stretch. It was a convenient version of a bow.

Red thought it needed stone, the replacement for the arrow. However, he found a leather pouch that contained thorny metal balls.

There were only thirteen of them, but he didn't have to worry about it breaking apart since it was made of metal instead of wood. He just needed to be careful to pick it back after each shot.

Of course, the reason he picked the Slingshot was not that it was a convenient version of a bow, but something else. Something that pushed me to quickly decide to take the Slingshot despite its quirkiness.

He held them tightly, showing them to the guard. That was a procedure to ensure he didn't take more than three items from inside.

They were annoyed at first, but their expression changed when they saw the slingshot, turned into an amusement, and looked weirded by his choice. Both shook their heads and threw the item to the ground instead of handing it to him.

Red was annoyed, but he told himself there would be a time when he could pay them back. He just needed to remember them for now and focus on getting into the warrior rank next. It was not too late for payback later on.

He picked up all the stuff and rushed to the creek. He could not wait to wear the new armor. But he didn't want to wear it when his body was dirty. He didn't want to dirty his armor.

As he washed his body, he also washed his armor. He didn't; he was supposed to do that, but the armor was quite dirty as it was being ignored in the storage.

All three pieces were overlooked by the others, and he picked them up because of his Appraisal. He washed them as he cleaned the dried blood on his body.

Red sat next to the creek after finishing up. He was holding the leather armor and used Appraisal on it to ensure washing it didn't damage the armor.

Leather Armor

Condition: Excellent

Quality: Uncommon

Attribute: +0.5 Defense

The armor was in excellent condition, and it was of uncommon quality. That was why he picked it up, even though it looked worn out. Even if it was not in excellent condition, he would pick it up just for +0.5 Defense.

If there was something he didn't understand, it was about the defense. Even with the information provided, he didn't understand how it worked.

[Defense: Increase damage mitigation based on user attribute and defense attribute. Mitigation: 0.5 x user Vitality.]

He understood what it meant, but he didn't understand what it meant by (0.5 x his Vitality). He figured out that 0.5 was the defense provided by the armor, and his Vitality was 5. The thing he didn't understand was the x symbol.

Red immediately gave up trying to understand. No matter how hard he thought about it, he would not find the answer. It was not something he could solve with his current knowledge. He picked up the Slingshot.

Argent Slingshot

Condition: Excellent

Quality: Rare

Attribute: +0.6 Attack +0.4 Aim

[Attack: Increase damage dealt based on user attribute and attack attribute. Damage Increase: 0.6 x user Strength.]

[Aim: Increase user accuracy based on user attribute and Aim attribute. Accuracy Increase: 0.4 x user Dexterity.]

This was the most hopeless situation he was in. Even though he had the information, he didn't understand any of it.

Copperite Dagger

Condition: Excellent

Quality: Uncommon

Attribute: +0.7 Attack

The time he spent inside the weapon storage was not a waste. He made sure to pick the weapon in the best condition. He was actually torn between two weapons, between a dagger and a pole blade.

The way for him to describe Pole Blade was half-spear and half-spear. It was shorter than an actual spear, and it provided more flexibility than a spear as well. It also provided something that a sword didn't have: a longer reach.

There were two Pole Blades, both of which were of common quality, and the condition was good as well. However, he reminded himself that he picked a weapon for hunting, not a battle.

That was the reason why he picked the dagger. Added to the higher quality and condition of the dagger, convinced him even more to pick the dagger.

Red had more gains than just getting better equipment for his hunting. Not only did he know how to level up his skill, but he finally found out what was the cause of the weird sensation when he used Appraisal.

There was always this feeling that something was getting sucked from his body, even until now. He found out what it was about when he rummaged through the weapon storage. It was the feeling of using his mana.

His mana was drained after using Appraisal so many times. Another gain was the fact that his Appraisal got to Level 5, but he still could not find the difference between Level 1 Appraisal and Level 5 Appraisal.

The information provided by the skill was the same; nothing changed. Another thing that frustrated him. But his frustration was overcome with the satisfaction of getting a new weapon.

He was satisfied with his choice and quickly dressed up after everything dried up. He hung the pouch on the right side of his waist and the slingshot on the left side. His dagger was on the same side as his metal ball pouch.

Red went to the main kitchen after. That was the reason why he returned in the first place. He wanted to have a meal before continuing his hunt.

The people in the tribe gave him a different look when they saw him. He was no longer topless, having leather armor and long pants. Those workers were surprised, some even looked unsatisfied with his new look.

Red knew it was hard to gain recognition in a single day, but this was a good start. No one dared to ridicule him anymore; at least, they would not do that in front of his face with his new status as a hunter.

He had a meal, another pot of soup, and the meat gruel. The female human cook tried to correct him again, but he didn't bother to correct it. He had three servings and left to continue his hunt. He could not wait to try his new weapon, and he had a plan in his mind.
