They had even gone so far as to hastily assemble a set of makeshift equipment specifically to deal with the ant queen. In hindsight, it was hard to say whether they should count themselves lucky or not—later, inside the queen's head, they had discovered those bizarre infant-faced fish.
Now the infant-faced fish were dead, and the ant queen herself had become insignificant. The ammunition they had prepared seemed to have lost any purpose.
…So was this really over? Had they completed their original mission and could finally prepare to return to the surface?
Albert snapped back to himself and suddenly remembered something important. "What about the little ones? Did you see them when you came out?"
At that, Hayes froze for a moment as well. "…When the ant queen started smashing the walls, I could barely feel anything anymore. I thought the fry would keep attacking me, but after the big one died, they seemed to go quiet."
