The thick white fluid looked deceptively simple, yet it was lethally toxic.

It was squeezed out of the toad mutant's subdermal poison glands and sprayed into the air, scattering like a deadly mist straight toward their faces.

Without a second thought, Hayes yanked the massive mushroom above his head down in front of him, using it as a shield against the oncoming venom.

The white liquid splashed onto the broad fungal cap, instantly burning several gaping holes through the fleshy surface—holes that continued to spread as the corrosive toxin ate its way outward.

Behind those holes, the grotesque toad mutant wore a cold, inscrutable expression, a smile slowly curling across his face.

"What kind of ability is that?" the young man said, narrowing his eyes. "Interesting. It looks like spider silk, yet your appearance doesn't seem to be affected by biological genes at all… Truly enviable."
