In less than a handful of exchanges with the boar mutant, Hayes' leopard paw pads were already soaked in blood.

Albert had knitted protective pads for his paws earlier, but they could only provide limited cushioning. The razor-sharp quills still stabbed mercilessly into his flesh again and again—

The webbed paw covers were torn to shreds by the spikes, crimson blood seeping steadily through.

Enraged by the pain, Hayes' eyes turned red with fury. Among spiked creatures, this boar was far more troublesome than the caterpillar had been.

At least the giant moth larva had a soft, unarmored belly. But this boar… aside from the thick-skinned head, nearly every inch of its body was covered in spikes.

Though its quills weren't venomous, they were harder and sharper than the caterpillar's—and could even be launched at will.

With such a dense barrage of needles, even the juvenile Dreadweaver Spiders couldn't approach easily.
