Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Agreement

Carabella was faced with this strange question, which made her uneasy again. What exactly did Jefferson want from her, since their relationship had not been very close. Besides, Jefferson was already engaged, why was he targeting her again? Could it be that Jefferson's goal was simply to show off his harmonious relationship to make her jealous? Since Jefferson had recently been busy preparing for the engagement party, his sudden approach was to become his slave.

One thing that annoyed Carabella was why Jefferson acted as if he knew everything. Why did he use a wisecrack that left her unable to resist? Now she could conclude that the calm man was actually more dangerous.

"I've told you many times. It's none of your business!" Carabella snapped, taking a step back from the annoying man.

"You asked for a wish earlier, and now I truly want to grant it. If you can satisfy me, you won't cry for the rest of your life."

"Why are you targeting me all of a sudden? Is it fun to make me angry in front of you all the time?"

His right hand clenched tightly as he exhaled heavily. After years of not seeing this woman, he hadn't expected her to be more stubborn than before.

"I wanted to give you a birthday present. But if you keep refusing, I won't force you." He slowly walked toward the petite woman. "You'll have a decent life if you work with me."

"What will I get? Money?"

Jefferson laughed heartily, shaking his head. "I knew all you cared about was money."

"I already suspected it because in your eyes, I'm just a beggar. You used to give me money every time you made me angry and cry."

"Am I still like that in your eyes now?"

"Yes, because you are a perfectionist CEO and very arrogant."

"You'll regret your words in the future." Jefferson placed a brown envelope on the table for a moment. "Read my employment agreement first. Especially the benefits you'll receive."

"I'll read it later."

"No. I want you to read it now."

Carabella rolled her eyes as she opened the brown envelope. She took the agreement documents Jefferson had prepared and took a seat in the gazebo.

The night air grew colder, making Carabella shiver. Just as she was about to rub her palms together, she was suddenly enveloped in Jefferson's jacket, causing her to stare wide-eyed. She was surprised, not because she expected Jefferson to be considerate, but because it was the first time he had acted this overly affectionate. Furthermore, she felt undeserving of this special treatment.

"You can continue reading the agreement. I'll wait for you here," Jefferson said, sitting next to Carabella, staring at his phone.

Just reading the first page of the agreement, Carabella already understood Jefferson's motives for suddenly recruiting her. Her primary duties were to assist Jefferson with his work and wedding preparations. But why should she do all this when Jefferson's fiancée could do it herself?

"Do you still mind working with me?"

"So far, no."

"Then, quickly sign this agreement!" Jefferson immediately handed over a pen from his collection.

"Why are you so eager to get me to sign this agreement? Is there a clause I shouldn't see?"

"The air is getting cold, do you want to catch a cold?"

Carabella snickered in annoyance as she snatched the pen from this annoying man. "You're the one who's cold, yet you're the one who gave me your jacket!"

"Instead of talking too much, it's better to sign the agreement now!"

Carabella was forced to sign this agreement on every corner of the page. Her gaze glared at this annoying man who was watching her as if he wanted to pounce on her.

"I've finished signing it." She took the initiative to take off the jacket and return it to Jefferson. "If you'll excuse me."

"Don't be late for breakfast with my family tomorrow."

"No. I will eat with the other household assistants."

"Didn't you read the main clause in the agreement? You have to follow me wherever I go."

"Even though I'm not your dog."

"I never treated you like a dog. But, you are just an ordinary woman."

For the first time Carabella had breakfast with Alexander's family. Although she actually felt unworthy to eat at this luxurious dining table, she was still forced by Jefferson to eat with her according to the agreement. Although the dishes at the dining table were very diverse from appetizers to desserts, Carabella still had no appetite because she was sitting next to Jefferson. For some reason now she felt like Jefferson was restraining her.

"By the way, did you sleep well last night, Ella?" Alexander asked suddenly, making Carabella a little surprised.

"Of course I can sleep well because the room here is more comfortable than my old room."

"Earlier you were so nervous about having breakfast with us, why did you suddenly change your mind?"

Carabella swallowed nervously as she watched Jefferson calmly eat his omelet. She wanted to accuse him of forcing her, but the contract had warned her not to accuse him.

"Now that I think about it, it would be polite if I had breakfast with you guys. You've been treating me so well since yesterday."

Jefferson put his spoon and fork down on the table. "Mom, Dad, I have something important to tell you."

"What is it, my son? Is it related to wedding preparations?" Vilia asked enthusiastically.

"I will be living in the new house starting today."

Her eyes widened at her son's request, which was the complete opposite of her previous plan. "Really? Didn't you previously want to leave the house empty until you got married?"

"After I've thought about this more critically, I think I should move into that house. Besides, Ella will be my housekeeper."

Vilia massaged her temples for a moment. "Wait a minute! Why did you have to choose Ella?"

"Because Ella is the only one I can trust to take care of the house. She's very experienced, and I've known her for a long time. Wouldn't it be better if I hired a reliable housekeeper?"

"But, this is a bit much. Don't you think your fiancé will be upset to see another woman living in your house?"
