Chapter 44 - The Enemy Within

••{RHIANNON'S POV}••

Weightless.

That's how I feel as they carry me through passage after passage.

I don't know how far we've gone. I don't even know where we are, and I can't see much past the floor and my hooded abductors surrounding me. All I know is that my shoulders burn from being yanked too hard, my wrists throb where the rope cuts into my skin, and my throat feels raw from screaming until there was nothing left.

They don't speak to me.

That's what terrifies me the most.

No taunts. No threats. Just hands on my arms and the steady sound of footsteps echoing through the castle.

Cold air hits my face suddenly. I flinch, sucking in a sharp breath through the gag as moonlight spills over us.

We're outside.

The night sky stretches above us, the moon hanging high like it's watching and choosing not to intervene.

That's when I see it.

A carriage waiting there in the courtyard.

"No," I say, the sound barely making it past the gag.
