Chapter 9 - Nine

The car cruised down the quiet road, the scent of leather and Adrian's cologne filling the space between them. Mary sat with her arms crossed, a teasing smile playing on her lips as she glanced at the man beside her- the man who had been the coldest, selfish man she had ever met.

"So," she began, stretching out the word. "How did we get here? Because last I checked, you were very arrogant."

Adrian smirked but kept his eyes on the road. "And last I checked, you were a stubborn woman who made it her mission to challenge me at every turn."

She laughed. "Oh please, Do you not remember how we met? You barged into the Orphanage, telling me I'll be fired by the end of the week."

He groaned. "I shouldn't have said that."

Before she could respond, the car slowed.

Before her stood a new building. It's modern design blending seamlessly with the warm charm of a home. A sign near the entrance read: Calloway's Orphanage- Mary's Home of Hope.

"Surprise!" Taylor called out, grinning as she came out of the house.

She turned to Adrian. "You did this?"

His gaze was steady, intense. "You once told me your biggest dream was to do your best to give children a home."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to Taylor, who smiled. "I approve now," she said dramatically. "He's not a devil anymore."

Adrian arched a brow. "I was a devil?"

Taylor shrugged. "Well, there's a still little devil in you. At least now, it's all for her."

Mary laughed. "I don't know what to say."

His hands slid around her waist, pulling her close. His voice dropped to a growl. "I will spend the rest of my life proving it to you."

She smiled through her tears. "I was always yours."

He kissed her, sealing the moment with passion, devotion, and a love that neither of them could ever walk away from.

She knew one thing for sure.

This wasn't just the end of their story- It was the beginning of forever.
