Chapter 8 - Begging for Mercy

The villagers outside noticed that there was no movement inside and assumed that Katō and her family of three had been burned to death.

Even though they believed that Katō's family had been burned to death, the villagers dared not go in to check the situation.

After all, we witnessed the cruelty and horror of demons last night.

It is human nature to feel fear about the unknown.

Everyone was asking the village chief what to do next.

The village chief was also worried. The sun had set and a torrential downpour was starting. If Mitsuko hadn't died, wouldn't he be walking into a trap?

The village chief didn't dare to check himself, so he selected two of the bravest villagers to open the door and take a look.

Even the two villagers who were named couldn't help but feel afraid.

But with everyone watching them, they had no choice but to muster their courage and open the door.

Just as the two villagers touched the door, a noise came from inside the house.

The two were so frightened that they quickly withdrew their hands.

The others also took several steps back in fear.

Suddenly.

The door suddenly opened by itself, and the room was filled with thick smoke, making it impossible to see what was inside.

A footstep could be heard approaching from afar.

When they saw it clearly, all the villagers were terrified.

Because Mitsuko was still alive, he walked out of the thick smoke with his head down, so his expression was not visible.

Furthermore, behind Mitsuko, two streams of blood were suspended in the air, holding Kenichi and Miyako's corpses aloft.

The villagers tried to escape, but the blood flowing from Mitsuko's body formed a fence that resembled one around an animal, trapping all the villagers inside.

A deep sense of fear lingered in everyone's hearts.

"Katō Mitsuko! What do you want to do...?"

Before one of the villagers could finish speaking, he suddenly felt his vision plummeting downwards, and he could clearly see his headless body.

A large amount of blood gushed out from the cut in his neck, splattering onto the surrounding villagers.

Mitsuko manipulated the blood to behead the villagers.

Whispers like those of demons reached the villagers' ears.

"The first one..."

The villagers screamed in terror, trying to escape, but the blood-soaked fence suddenly sprouted thorns that prevented them from fleeing.

Subsequently, villagers' heads were severed one after another.

Mitsuko kept whispering, "The second...the third..."

The agonizing sound made the survivors crouch on the ground, clutching their heads tightly, terrified that they would be the next to have their heads severed.

"The eleventh..."

Mitsuko only stopped after the eleventh person's head was severed in blood.

Some villagers noticed that the eleven people who were killed were the ones who threw torches at Mitsuko's house.

So they all begged Mitsuko for mercy.

"Not enough, still not enough..."

Mitsuko suddenly raised his head, his originally brown pupils now turning into crimson vertical pupils, his cold gaze sweeping over the villagers.

His seemingly emotionless gaze made people afraid to meet his eyes, and they all lowered their heads.

"Although you all deserve to die, I can spare your lives. But there is one more person who must die. Who do you think deserves to die the most?"

Mitsuko then posed the question to the villagers.

The villagers initially whispered and discussed the matter quietly.

The argument then grew louder and louder, and some people even started fighting.

Mitsuko simply watched them indifferently.

In the end, everyone pointed the finger at the village chief.

They believe that everything was initiated by the village chief, and if the village chief had let Katō's family leave, perhaps none of this would have happened.

The village chief angrily retorted, "I've done all this for the village, and now you want me to die? You bunch of ingrates!"

However, the village chief's scolding had no effect whatsoever, and all the villagers told Mitsuko that the village chief deserved to die.

"You made the right choice. Congratulations on surviving."

Mitsuko manipulated the blood into ropes, bound the village chief, and dragged him out of the crowd.

The village chief, terrified, apologized to Mitsuko: "Mitsuko, I was wrong. I shouldn't have done that. I don't want to die. Please forgive me for the sake of our years as neighbors!"

The village chief knelt on the ground, pleading with Mitsuko.

"Spare you? I helped you slay the demon, and you want to kill me? We've been neighbors for years! My father and mother begged you for the same thing, did you ever give us a chance?"

Mitsuko stomped on the village chief's head and crushed it mercilessly.

"We just want the three of us to live a good life together as a family, why are you taking that away from us?!"

The village chief felt like his head was about to be crushed, and kept begging for mercy: "Mitsuko, please forgive me. As long as you let me live, I will agree to any request you make."

"The significance of an apology lies in whether the victim needs it. Do you think I need your apology? You're only apologizing because your life is now in my hands!"

Mitsuko released his foot, squatted down in front of the village chief, grabbed the village chief's hair, and made him look directly at him: "Since you'll grant me any request, then I'll give you a chance. I'm hungry now. Will you choose yourself, or someone else?"

The village chief shuddered in terror and hurriedly said, "I am the village chief. Everything in the village is decided by me. From now on, you can eat anyone in the village as you please. If you run out, I can go find someone else, as long as you let me go!"

The village chief's words caused an uproar, and the villagers immediately became resentful, constantly condemning him.

"You old bastard! Why should we sacrifice ourselves for you?!"

"When the demons came yesterday, you old codgers were the fastest to run away!"

"Damn it, why didn't the demons from last night eat you, you old bastard, first?"

...

"It seems you don't agree. How about this, the choice is in your hands." Mitsuko kicked the village chief back into the crowd.

When the village chief returned to the crowd, he was met with a group of furious villagers.

The villagers, eager to get started, surrounded the village chief.

The village chief, blustering but cowardly, threatened, "You cannot lay a hand on me; I am the head of the village!"

However, no one chose to back down because of his threats.

The village chief was attacked by the villagers. He started screaming and eventually fell silent. He was beaten to death by the villagers.

When the villagers wanted to hand over the village chief's body to Mitsuko, Mitsuko was already gone.

Mitsuko had already disappeared into the rainy night with Kenichi and Miyako's bodies.
