Chapter 41 - The Revenge Council, The Black Hand's Plot

Zhou Yi spoke plainly, without any pretense.

"The reason your father invited Blade and me to this hunt is because you possess the ability to create a new race, a race that threatens not only the Vampires but also Humans. I may not care about the Vampires' fate, but I cannot ignore the survival of Humans. Therefore, I want to hear what you have to say."

"I can prove to you that everything my father said is a lie." Chadnorma said, opening his mouth and roaring. Moments later, several answering roars echoed from a distance, and Zhou Yi's keen senses detected several Hybrids rapidly approaching.

The Hybrids could not possibly change the gap between the two of them, and both sides understood this. So Zhou Yi remained indifferent, letting Chadnorma do as he pleased. He was also curious about what Chadnorma wanted to show him.

After a while, three Hybrids with significant differences in appearance appeared before Zhou Yi. One of them had a build similar to a normal person and wore a hooded sweatshirt similar to Chadnorma's. Aside from his strange appearance, he didn't look very different from an ordinary Human.

The other was thin and looked like a large, hairless ape. This wasn't just describing his appearance but also his movements. He didn't even want to stand upright, choosing instead to use his forelimbs to support himself on the ground, remaining in a quadrupedal stance. He looked almost indistinguishable from an animal.

As for the last one, he was a replica of the first Hybrid. But his appearance was even uglier, and his posture was somewhat hunched. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that his bones were strangely deformed, with strange protrusions on his sternum and pelvis. Most importantly, his eyes were dull, unlike the first one, which possessed some intelligence. This guy's eyes looked like those of a wild animal, filled with animality.

After carefully distinguishing the differences between the various Hybrids, Zhou Yi turned to Chadnorma, wanting to hear the progenitor's explanation.

"As you can see, these are the Hybrids I've created so far," Chadnorma said, pointing at the first Hybrid to explain to Zhou Yi.

"These are second-generation Hybrids, transformed from Vampires. It takes twelve hours to convert them. They possess relatively normal intelligence and have greater strength and regeneration abilities compared to Vampires. They can also infect others, turning them into members of our kind. This is the key to my plan. However, their bloodlust is intense, and a single feeding only sustains them for 24 hours. If they can't feed in time, their stamina will rapidly decline."

"This is a new type I created by converting Humans from the second generation. Their strength is only slightly superior to ordinary Vampires, and their bloodlust is even stronger, but they lack the ability to infect. They'll experience stamina decline after 36 hours without feeding. For my plan, they can only serve as cannon fodder to attract attention."

"And these are the third generation, the main force for attacking my father's Castle. They are a breed created by re-converting Vampires from the initial ones I transformed. They only obey my orders, are filled with aggression and a desire to feed. They share the same regeneration ability as the second generation and can complete the transformation in just an hour. Vampires attacked by them will appear unchanged, but after 18 hours, they will transform at the fastest speed, becoming a similar subspecies. Furthermore, neither the third generation nor the subspecies are infectious to Humans. Unfortunately, this breed suffers the most severe decline, lasting only 24 hours. Even feeding cannot reverse this decline."

"Marquinos has concealed the most crucial thing from you: the Decline Period! Only I will not decline, but I cannot destroy a race by myself."

Chadnorma was telling the truth, Zhou Yi could tell. He had been monitoring their physiological characteristics, analyzed by Medusa. However, some things were not as simple as he thought.

The Hybrids might have a Decline Period, but that was only for the third generation. Before that, the second and third generations would cause immense harm to Humans, something no one could estimate. Even if they weren't infectious, they still had bloodlust. This alone was enough to prove they posed a threat to Humans.

Everything hinged on these 24 hours. The sky was already beginning to lighten, and they wouldn't appear before Humans in daylight. But after the sun went down, they would definitely come above ground to attack Marquinos's Castle. Once Chadnorma lost control, these bloodthirsty beasts would surely attack Humans.

Zhou Yi was caught in a difficult choice. He very much wanted to see the evil tumor that was the great Marquinos reap what he sowed, perishing in his son's revenge. For this, he even extinguished his own desire to settle accounts with Marquinos. But he also worried about Chadnorma losing control. His sense of responsibility as a Dawn Knight made him want to nip the worst-case scenario in the bud.

Chadnorma was also waiting for the Dawn Knight to make a choice, and he had made the worst preparations. Once the Dawn Knight wanted to kill him, he would mobilize all his descendants to resist. No matter what, he had to live on and take his revenge. He had been preparing for this revenge for more than thirty years, and it had become the master of all his thoughts.

"Do you know what the best ending is, Chadnorma?" Chadnorma waited, but what he got was such a sentence.

"The best ending?" Chadnorma was stunned, then said without hesitation, "It must be that my revenge succeeds, that is the best ending."

"That's just what a good ending should be. The best ending should be, you and the great Marquinos perish together." Zhou Yi said this, and with an empty hand gesture towards the Hybrid converted from a Human, a white flame with a temperature of 4000 degrees instantly surrounded him, turning him into ashes in just a short moment.

The remaining two Hybrids growled uneasily, but were immediately stopped by Chadnorma. He tensed up, knowing that the moment of judgment that concerned his fate had arrived.

"You have only 24 hours. Before sunrise tomorrow, I will not interfere with your war with the Vampires. However, you must control your descendants. Except for those Humans who are mixed up with the Vampires, I will not allow any other innocent Humans to be harmed. After 24 hours, neither you nor your descendants will be allowed to remain."

Chadnorma suddenly opened his mouth wide, his terrifying mandibles splitting as he roared. His voice was filled with a desperate longing for revenge. He was clearly excited. Excited to be alive, and to have the chance to take his revenge.

Zhou Yi understood how Chadnorma felt. For him, this was all a bit of a joke. But there was still value in watching. What was justice? For some who played at being heroes, it was about protecting the lives of others, safeguarding their rights. But for Zhou Yi, he agreed more with this: letting people get what they deserved, rather than losing what they shouldn't.

For Chadnorma, revenge was what he deserved.

Zhou Yi turned and left the area; he had other things to do. Chadnorma didn't linger either; he needed to build up his strength for tonight's attack. Marquinos's biggest mistake was gathering the Vampires here. This place would become Chadnorma's breeding ground.

Sensing Chadnorma's disappearance, Zhou Yi spoke in the empty space.

"Blade, what will you do? Stop him?"

Blade's tall figure emerged from the shadows. He tilted his head, sizing up the direction Chadnorma had gone, and finally said,

"No, I also enjoy killing Vampires, and Marquinos really should taste the fangs of his son. But, do you really trust him?"

"I believe in his desire for revenge, but what happens afterward… whether I believe in him or not is irrelevant. Before dawn tomorrow, if they don't destroy themselves, I'll make sure they disappear."

"Suit yourself." Blade shrugged. "I'll watch a few streets for you, but that's it. The rest is up to you."

"Thanks!" Zhou Yi said. Blade's offer was more than just a helping hand; it was choosing to stand with him.

"Don't mention it. You still owe me a car." Blade waved his hand and turned to leave. "I like tough guys. A Hummer would be nice."

Zhou Yi smiled. This was a guy worth befriending.

Having understood the nature of this farce, the two of them naturally wouldn't maintain any so-called alliance with the Vampires. Whatever the Vampires' intentions were, it was no longer their concern. They were ready to withdraw. All the final accounts would be settled before sunrise tomorrow.

The Blood Clan Guard were still engaged in a thrilling battle with the Hybrids. The already sizable Hybrid group was overwhelming these elite Blood Clan warriors, even leaving some struggling to defend themselves. No matter how they called the two vampire hunters on the comms, they only received static. They had to request reinforcements from the Vampire headquarters, even to the point of potentially abandoning all the Vampires here.

In the underground lair of the Vampire headquarters, in that decaying Castle.

The Vampire Duke, Marquinos, was enjoying his meal. As Chadnorma had said, he was almost decayed, unable to even use his vampire fangs. He had to solidify the fresh blood into a jelly-like substance before swallowing it.

Despite his pretense of using human dining utensils with elegance, it couldn't hide the truth. Generally, no one would disturb him while he ate, except for Asa, who served him, not even his daughter.

But there were always exceptions, and this was one of them.

The intruder was Kailuo, the nominal legal advisor for the European Healthcare Consortium. In reality, he held a deeper identity: he was Marquinos's chief biological scientist. All of Chadnorma's transformations had been carried out by him.

Watching Kailuo rush in in a panic, Asa, the butler who had always maintained order around the Vampire Duke, unusually remained silent, a slight frown creasing his brow. This in itself indicated that Kailuo's status here was not low.

"Your Grace, there's bad news. The Blood Clan Guard has suffered heavy losses, and the Dawn Knight and Blade have disappeared, seemingly having discovered something. Should we change the plan?"

The Vampire Duke put down his knife and fork, supporting himself on the table as he stood up. He walked step by step towards a pool of swirling blood behind him.

"The casualties of a few small fries can't change anything, as long as the prey is still in the net, there's no problem. These sacrifices are still acceptable."

Not everyone understood Marquinos's pretentious way of speaking, at least Kailuo didn't. He bent over, cautiously asking a question.

"Tell Reinhardt, he knows what to do. Also, inform our rats, Blade is key to our plan, we absolutely cannot let him escape."

"Understood, Your Grace. Then, allow me to take my leave!" Marquinos's decaying aura was enough to make anyone retch; if possible, Kailuo wouldn't want to stay with this old man for even a second. However, his surface work had always been impeccable, and no one had ever been able to detect his true thoughts.

"Go." Marquinos waved his hand, and Kailuo immediately bowed and left.

At this moment, the Vampire Duke was completely immersed in the Blood Spring, and for a while, there was only the sound of blood surging. It was not until a long time later that he spoke.

"Asa, the Dawn Knight is yours."

"Rest assured, my master." Asa knelt on one knee, speaking respectfully and sincerely. "I swear on my life, the Dawn Knight will absolutely not disturb you in the slightest!"
